Do you fly airliners in VR?

Personally, I only use VR for GA and pancake mode for airliners (A320). I don’t think VR is there yet for airliners, but nevertheless it is incredibly immersive for GA.

Curious to hear from others. Anyone here use VR for airliners consistently?

I agree with you. Flying the big heavies in VR is nice for the feeling of being inside an actual flight deck and working with actual instruments. But once you’re in the air and on the long haul there’s nothing to do: not much to see out the window, no iPad or secondary screen to keep you occupied, there’s no point leaving the headset on the table and going about your day while the plane flies. In my opinion, for long flights in the airliners you’re better off using a keyboard and a monitor.

Yes, I fly the A320 Neo and it’s very usable. Why do you think VR is better for GA?
The A320 cabin looks soooo big, I feel very immersed and enjoy it. It’s something different.

I’ve never understood how people could bare those long haul flights in either 2D or 3D! So is that what they do, just set to autopilot and then go about their other duties?

I’ve done a couple flights where I start cold and dark in vr, get up to cruise then switch to pancake. Turn on the copilot to handle the radio and then come back to vr for descent

I enjoy flying the A320 in VR a lot , I don’t like long haul fights, my average flight plans are under 1 hour and I set the time of day to 6am or so and enjoy the sunrise with real-time weather. It’s insanely beautiful and I love to fly all the way through every cloud layers until I’m above and where the sky is blue. Then if I chose a destination that is too far , I put the time to around 4x (press R then CTRL- + ) and when ATC ask me to start going down , I put it back to 1x and fly manually the descent and approach , ILS with no autopilot. I only keep the auto thrust.
And then when I want to do VFR , I jump in one of the GA plane and write down some VOR to follow at low altitude in a place where you can see beautiful landmarks. But definitely enjoying the A320 and switching to external views to admire the scenery and gorgeous weather. This game is phenomenal

That sounds exactly like what I do with the A320, in both VR and pancake mode.

I have to say that VR in GA is at its best! Specially looking the terrain detail! When I fly airliners I do it with VR until almost reaching cruise altitude and then I switch to 2D until the decent

I stick to FSX VR for flying long hauls and heavies.
MSFS VR is strictly for GA VFR for now.
Not a fan of any of the 3 airliners except for their flight deck visuals. Big urban airports and these heavies come with heavy performance impact in VR.

i rarely use anything but a Cessna 152… dunno why, just enjoy it more.

Why not do both like I do sometimes? Take the 747 for a short VFR flight and throw it around. It feels like you’ve stolen the school bus

Tried the Bus in VR its insanely big inside the cockpit. So immersive. You can play with the FMC quite easily. Problems come with trying to communicate online in VATSIM, I’m not able to bring external windows into the VR environment like I do in XPlane. No online no tubeliners for me.

Gotta say, since doing the Flight Sim Academy VFR and IFR courses, which lean heavily on the 152, I have come to admire the simple delights of this classic aircraft. It just does what it was meant to do perfectly and just feels cozy and right in VR.

I’m relatively new to VR (bought my first headset in December) and I‘ve only recently really got used to it. At first I only used it for GA because I wasn‘t happy with the performance and visuals in airliners. After a while I lost interest in flying GA aircraft (I’ve never really been into GA aircraft) and went back to flying airliners in pancake mode. Over the following two months I found myself flying less and less, partly because I didn‘t have much time and partly because it got a bit bored. Then one day, while I was taxiing to the runway at LECO in the A320, only moderately motivated, I decided to plug in my Reverb G2. Frame rates were still far from perfect but somehow on that flight it clicked. I think I just came to accept the fact that it won‘t run as smoothly as I had imagined and somehow I got used to it which allowed me to really appreciate the experience. Now I love flying the A320 in VR and I haven‘t flown in pancake mode for 3 weeks. At the moment I don‘t see myself going back anytime soon.
I don‘t usually do longer flights. If it’s a bit longer I switch to 2D as soon as I reach the cruise altitude, let the copilot handle the radio and do something else. I then go back shortly before TOD.

On my side, only using VR with VFR.
I tried with a320 but text on some screens are not really readable due to the resolution (maybe only my PC config, not sure) and the experience is less immersive as you have to use the mouse.

I disagree entirely. I mainly fly the WT CJ4 and A320NX on Vatsim in VR. It does not get more immersive than that. Flying at 45,000 ft with live ATC, a busy controlled airspace, with live Charts trying to stick to your airspeed restrictions and altitude constraints is about as good as it gets for me. GA is great but I like high intensity situations and seeing other planes fly procedures more.
