Do you have “show traffic nameplates” enabled? I think it’s the only reliable way to detect other multiplayer planes in 2 miles distance. Some planes are to small to be visible in this distance.
I do. This is the same approach, was able to see people on the ground. And was able to see other aircraft nameplates during cruise but they disappeared when they got close.
Here is a prime example on my current flight. I can see and aircraft traveling the opposite direction. See their nameplate, and they even get close enough I can start to see the aircraft itself, but as it gets closer and goes across the center post, the traffic completely disappears visually. It’s still indicated on radar as being there, but they are just gone.
That seems to be nametags of other “real time traffic” planes, which are injected by the sim engine if you enable this feature, and not other players. But I don’t know why they are disappearing. I did not use this feature until now. I did some group flights with other players in the beta and their planes are not disappearing in this situations. The nameplates of other players are showing their gamertags and are often similar to their forum names.
Here is another prime example which just happened on my current flight during my descent into KSJC. TCAS RA’s for an invisible aircraft.
i see your plane on ksjc.
Hahah, yeah, I just saw you too. I pulled off the runway and was staring you down while awaiting clearance for taxi to parking
I’m still smirking that we ran into each other. I do have a question though… what aircraft were you in at the time? And what aircraft did it appear to you that I was in?
I meant to take a screenshot of you to prove I could see other people on the ground, not knowing it was you, but you were in a 737 on my screen, sitting cockeyed in the adjacent runway.
I know from 2020, and I suppose 2024, the sim populates a generic aircraft when somebody is in a non-common aircraft. Curious if were actually in a 737, because I had seen your name moving around during my approach, and I’m curious if it looked like I was in a Longitude from your POV, or something else.
I was in a 3rd party F-35 military jet. The sim does some multiplayer modelmatching if you don’t have the other plane installed. A generic F-18 would have been more appropriate than a B737 or A320. Your plane looked like a Longitude, certainly a larger version of the CJ4. Since my MSFS 2024 premium edition contains the Longitude, I could see the original model.
I actually do have the F-35, I just don’t have it activated. I need to do that.
