I’m not going to say gamepads are good for simming in order to not offend anyone using it. Even my T16000M joystick isn’t cutting it for precise movements unless I mess with the sensitivity settings and sacrifice linearity.
If it works for you, great. Maybe your thumbs have better coordination than mine 
Courchevel always has a bunch of bad landings. It can be entertaining to see people trying to land there. Especially when they arrive in airliners.

I’ve been playing FS for 20+ years now, formerly on PC, now on Xbox X.
I still manage to make some truly awful landings from time to time.
I used to have a lot of peripherals - but now use a controller which gives me force feedback. Now I’ve tuned the sensitivity settings, its way better than any of the peripherals I used or tried with my PC…
