Does anyone from the northeastern US have snow coverage?

We had nearly 2 feet snow dumped on us last night… But I just took off from KBOS and not a single flake on the ground… What exactly their new snow-and-ice feature do?

The snow in game does work, assuming your live weather is working properly (that’s whole other issue). Where there’s snow coverage seems to be rather hit or miss. I’m in Canada. We’ve had snow at my location for the last 5 weeks or so. There’s only been snow at my location in the sim for the past couple of days, and it’s only scattered patches here and there, which is nowhere near being accurate.

They seem to be quite frugal on the use of snow… lol

Did you guys expect this to be implemented properly? I didn’t get my hopes up so now i’m like, eh. When I see it, great, if its not there, I keep flying lol

Yeah, we are high maintenance people

I started a flight in New York last night and there was a lot of snow.

We’ve had several feet of snow on the ground now for months (KIOW). In the sim: lush green, not a flake of snow. However, when I fly 30 miles north (KCID), then there is patchy snow in the sim (primarily on roads!!!). Something in the sim doesn’t work…

in northern finland it has been very accurate when it comes to snow coverage. snow depth is another thing but i didn’t expect to see actual snow depth

The short answer to OP:

Nothing. Barely works on a good day

I think the program can produce snow where it’s snowing. That information is in the weather reports. However, I don’t think there’s any online source that would tell the program how much is on the ground.

but when there’s snow, the roads are not plowed, vehicles are like snowmobiles, going 70 mph on unplowed roads…

The weather data does include how many inches of snow precipitated within certain number of hours…

Only it doesn’t.

And with that number of inches on the ground the engine should be able to calculate how many days it will take with what average temperatures for the snow to melt, it’s not terribly difficult to do…

I just flew into Trenton, then to New York and both places were covered in snow. It was very realistic.

Try Boston, you’ll see nothing

NY/NJ no snow cover showing. Probably at 3 feet over the last month or so, at least 8-12 compacted on the ground, still nothing.

Snow cover is intermittent, if at all. Turned on Live Weather last night for a quick hop from NJ to the Vineyard, everything looked Fallish, but no snow on the ground.

As when it was released, it seems to work fairly accurately in Europe, North America… not so much. Sometimes there’s some snow cover here. I fly out of the Boston area, too. There’s been snow cover in Concord, NH the last few days. I had a pretty nice flight up to KLEB the other day out of KASH and the trees looked really nice with snow on them.

Here’s some pics over Lake Sunapee on Saturday, but, yeah, it was very green not too far south of here.

BTW, you can use the slider in the weather dialog to adjust the amount of snow on the ground.
If the “Live” weather is incorrect, change it manually in this dialog and you’re ready to go!
