Does anyone know where the pak file is located that contains the “Don’t sink” audio warning file?
When landing a C172 in a thunderstorm with high crosswind it doesn’t help even a little bit to hear “Don’t sink” repeated over and over when in fact you need to “sink” as you are on final approach. LOL If this is an actual real world thing, with no way to silence it other than popping out a fuse, then I feel very sorry for the pilots. Thanks in advance for your help.
I did a search in that localisation file and couldn’t find “Don’t Sink”.
I suspect that there is a “trigger” coded into the sim that plays the audio file in a method that is independent of the en-US.locPak file.
Thanks, I think we may be able to find this in the individual aircraft packages. Located in the MSFS Packages\Official folder. I will report back if I make progress. I hate to try and mod any official folders and always make a back up first. Thanks again.
Its not a real world thing, it’s a bug. “Don’t sink” is a GPWS alert but this mode should only be active during take-off and go-around below 700 ft radio altitude or so.
Thank you. I have not flown in a small aircraft for many years. An uncle used to take my brother and I flying and I didn’t recall hearing this as we landed. You can turn the sound settings down for warnings as a work around. Although, this could cause you to miss a needed warning. I’m pretty sure the sound file is located in the official MSFS packages folder, where your community folder is located but I am not having much luck with Wwise in unpacking the pck file for the Cessna 172. It would be nice if microasobosoft would fix this bug soon. It may mean repacking a lot of planes and editing a lot of xml files, but I’m sure it would make a lot of customers happy. Thanks again.
On aircraft I add to the Community folder you can usually just edit the sound.xml file and simply comment out those warnings you don’t want to hear, e.g. TAWS warnings on the Kodiak.
Not messed with Official aircraft so not sure if that is possible but would be easier than other methods
You can also disable that from the cockpit. As you should…
You usually can’t, I’m not familiar with the Kodiak but usually the (E)GPWS basic modes are always active, the enhanced functions like PDA and FLTA can usually be switched off for landing at an airport which isn’t included in the terrain database. The mode 3 alert (“don’t sink”) should always be on.
There’s a separate TAWS inhibit button, because the Kodiak is known to fly in small mountainous airports
I’m not sure what exactly is switched off, but it usually shuts her up.
I don’t believe it’s supposed to shut up the complete TAWS system, usually the basic modes are always on. I never flew an aircraft where you can switch off the basic modes without pulling the circuit breaker at least .
SWS needs to add a TAWS inhibit keybind in order to press the button. I could not find anything and it ruins immersion in a home cockpit.
Every developer should be forced to proof the existence of keybinds for all functions before being approved for the marketplace.
Wow
Don’t expect any planes in the marketplace then.
Too bad for the people without a home cockpit.
P.S. have you looked at LVARS and spad.nxt?
Just did a search but could not find anything…
