Running Windows 11, 23H2, HP Reverb G2, AMD 7700X, RTX3090 GPU. Hard drives are M.2.
So far, I’m able to run most things on high / Ultra in VR based on 100 LOD for terrain and objects. Trees are at medium. DLSS Quality (though trying Balanced too).
My biggest performance victory was with the OpenXR Tools (not OpenXR Toolkit) running in prioritized performance over latency (AKA Turbo Mode) mixed with Nvidia Optical Flow Reprojection (Best frame rate option).
I’m getting about 22 - 23ms according to the OpenXR info window. I’m normally very happy with it.
I’m finding that my performance experience could be inconsistent. Last night it was ultra smooth, and the same situation today is rougher.
I know that MSFS 2024 is more dependent on streaming than before. Are others finding differences in their experience / performance depending on the time of day they are playing their game?
When I had it installed, I also found performance to be really inconsistent (and much worse than 2020 overall). One second it would be smooth at 45fps, the next it would drop straight to 30 when flying a bit closer to the ground or panning around the plane.
Sometimes it would also fluctuate seemingly randomly, with no relation to anything. I also hated how leaving the Esc menu to continue flying caused major stutters EVERY time, and how much of a delay there was when switching from cockpit to external view or vice versa.
Beyond all the bugs, the sheer performance gap between 2020 and 2024 was the main reason I got a refund for now.
Yes absolutely, the performance varies from day to day. Today was a day full of stutters, yesterday was acceptable, the rest of the week was perfect, actually it was so good like it has never been before. I have no idea what’s going on here. Are the weekeneds more demanding on the internet connection or are MS/Asobo constantly tweaking the sim in the background and experimenting with inprovements? Who knows!
PS: when I talk about performance I do not mean FPS, which are very acceptable on my system. I am talking about stutters and lags.
