Does my system meet the requirements for VR?

Hi there:
System Specs are:
CPU i7-10750H @2.60 Ghz
Geforce RTX 2060 with 6114mb memory
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 512GB SSD
16GB Ram
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best I can advise is maybe for VR with the specs, Some forum members have had success with similar specs, I had to change graphics card to 1080ti.

Although I could use VR with 1660ti which is just below a 2060 it wasn’t very enjoyable in my opinion

Only other thing to check is your cpu, when using msfs 20 does it boost to 5ghz only reason I ask is my cpu is 8 years old but is overclocked at 4.4 ghz… wouldn’t want to mislead you

Hope it helps, sorry I can’t give a more definitive answer. VR at present is very demanding

Hi there, thanks for replying. Yes the CPU jumps up to 5ghz when I use the msfs 2020.

But for how long? Sounds like you are running on a laptop, which often have difficulty with thermal throttling. Same for the GPU. As long as your machine can keep up with the heat, you might be able to play VR on it.

Yes, I have an HP Envy 15-ep0098nr Laptop…I am hoping that I can go with VR with my rig…But before I buy a headset I want to be absolutely sure that I can go VR. Thanks for the info and help. Does it take up a lot of resources when using VR?

You probably need to be a bit more specific about what hardware. A reverb G2 is a lot more demanding than a Rift for example.

Hi there,
I am interested in the Rift VR Headset

From what I can glean from the specs on the HP site, it looks like that laptop has a 4k screen. So what framerates are you getting on the machine when running FS2020? That will give you some idea of how it will perform with VR, maybe about 3/4 of the framerate depending on how you configure the VR settings.

Mine is also a laptop of i-7 9750H, rtx 2060, 32G ram, ssd, etc. and I use a Quest 2 with link cable.
I can say my computer is still enough to run sim in vr mode with medium or low graphic settings.
For me, even lower resolution 3D flight is more immersive than 4K 2D…
Feeling is like I’m in a real bird without my glasses…Everything is little bit blurry but looks real.

Also, I recommend Quest 2 than Rift.
Rift is moving out from the market and that is why it’s on sale. Quest 2 is better option considering future updates as well as its potential as a standalone platform.

I usually get around 60 fps.

Does the Quest 2 use bluetooth?

It communicates with a smartphone by Bluetooth but not with a computer yet.
To run MSFS, a link cable(usb 3.0) or wifi(Virtual Desktop app) is necessary.
Setting is not much difficult.

How much would a link cable cost?

Official oculus cable costs around £90 but you can use a usb c to c cable or usb c to a cable dependent on your lap top connections, also make sure it’s rated for 5gb.

I use a usb c to a cable which cost £9 from amazon, I get c1.8gb when testing the connection which is probably about average.

Render scaling will be your friend.

Some recommended cables.
