Hello dear Comunity, today i had a short flight from Huangju Airbase to Sunan Airport, after i loaded in i realize that the weather at north korea had a densed cloud and its a bit snowy. Everything was normal until when i put the gear lever to landing that the landing gear are not down… i go around and try again and it still wont go down, i guess it maybe iced or thats how i assumed beacuse im still newbie. please enlight me for what is actually going on and what is the best method to handle such situation during the flight thank you
I think this is a great question and one that I have not seen before!
I don’t have any answer for you as to whether or not the icing model affects the ability to lower the landing gear- hopefully others will be able to help!
I did move the thread out of general discussion into the appropriate community support section of the forums.
This might be unlikely but: some aircraft will not lower the gear if you are exceeding the gear extension speed. What aircraft were you flying and at what speed were you trying to lower the gear?
King air 350i, i dont remember exactly but maybe i try to put the gear down around 140knots and when i go around i think im at 120knots… does this might be the case ? bcs before ive done some rough landing due to fast airspeed with the same aircraft, and the gear able to goes down
Sorry but no: that’s not it then. I do not fly the King Air so I do not know its maximum gear extension speed but I believe it is way higher than that: up in the 180 knot range?
Don’t know if it will work in your particular case or not, but something to consider. The 350 does have a functioning emergency gear extension capability.
In the sim you’ll need to make sure you have “toggle gear emergency handle” (found under “Landing Gear”) bound to a key or button. Then the procedure is to hit whatever gear extension key/button you have to unlock the gear mechanism, then repeatedly press the key or button bound to the emergency handle to simulate pumping the handle (or just hold the key/button down for it to repeat if your arm is tired
), and you’ll see the gear extend.
If you ever want to just practice it in the sim, start at some altitude, shut the engines down, then feather them. Once the props stop spinning, you can’t extend the gear normally due to loss of engine-driven hydraulic pumps, so you can practice the emergency gear extension.
