Don't know City Update IV region yet?

I have to say… back in about 2020/2021, I was a HUGE fan of flying boats! In general, sea planes. With a chuckle, I must report that Microsoft has largely resolved that particular fascination, because I am about to my neck in flying boats at this point. It’s probably well-done if it’s BlueMesh, and I will buy it as I own all of the other Local Legends, but… please, for the love of god… no more flying boats!

In case anyone has already tried… Is this rendition of EDDK better than Aerosoft’s?

S.55, the huge Hercules, the Latécoère and now this Dornier to add to my hangar, it looks beautiful and hope it flies well like the Latécoère.

Is there anyone at MS/Asobo who can subtly remind Jorge that there are other famous planes that weren’t Interwar European Flying Boats ?

Asobo’s focus at the present time, based on hearing the interview during Gamescon as well as reading in between the lines a bit, seems to be on aircraft of which there are no survivors, or one survivor (S55, Herc) and in the case of the Dornier, there is also a build effort for a replica to be introduced in 2029. The spirit seems to be in bringing back these “extinct” or all but gone aircraft to the sim for future generations to enjoy. I believe that the Dornier was also likely an easy side-step for Bluemesh due to the Latecoere, keeping in mind it seems there was some German pride and pressure involved in bringing it forth as well.

With that said, here’s hoping for a more versatile aircraft in Sept, and one that isn’t made by Aeroplane Heaven.

Just tested both back-to-back.

They are eerily similar… the Microsoft one is made by Microsoft/Inibuilds.

Close battle, but I think the Aerosoft one is still better. Owing to generally more detail/clutter, as well as more complete terminal interiors. Aerosoft also has VDGS support. General exterior texturing is otherwise strikingly similar.

However, nearby Cologne photogrammetry has an fps bug. It seems to affect Aerosoft more than Microsoft/Inibuilds. Inibuilds FPS is better unless looking directly at the newest glass terminal building (which itself seems to have an fps bug?). Perhaps Aerosoft can patch this soon.

I will read again this thread later because I think I just read another flying boat is being released.
I’m refusing to believe my eyes so I’ll check again later.

Bluemesh is a fan-tas-tic developer it would be quite cool to hire them to do something different.

I’m pretty sure we could find planes of which no examples still exist that AREN’T Interwar European Flying Boats.

Agreed - but Bluemesh seems to have expertise in this niche, so it was leveraged. Maybe the French one (and the Italian one) sold extremely well too, so perhaps it’s based on perceived market value. All speculation. (And again, it sounds like Jorg has pushed for this long before the first pixels were put to the rendering software. )

On the one hand I’m glad it’s not a modern tubeliner but on the other hand, I’m a bit done with the boats at this point. May revisit the smaller S.55 tonight but three massive ones (Herc, French, Dornier, plus the Pilot’s B314 if you count that as a fourth) seems to cover the market well enough for the time being at this point. If they want to do a floater next, hopefully it’s an amphibian.

Yeah, I have the Aerosoft EDDK which is great I think, you can say what you want about Aerosoft aircraft, and I do, but they do release great sceneries, but its just unflyable there because of what Asobo did with the CU, the FPS is so bad.

Have ms or asobo posted release notes? I keep copies of these on my pc to check that any addons I use do not conflict with the various updates. In this case I have a cologne city addon and a payware cologne airport I am going to to have to take a look at. I also have some photo sceneries for Belgium that I will need to check.

This one made by Oliver Moser (Ju-52 and the Wal)

Thank you! Not that I planned on flying to/from Cologne today right away, it’s nice to know. I think for the time being, I’ll disable Aerosoft due to the bug and reenable it after a patch.

Is anyone else experiencing terrible performance at Cologne after the update?

I bought Do J Wal, some Flying Legends ago, but I flew it very little as I soon realized there were a great lack of water runways or parking places. If they want to release more flying boats or seaplanes in general, they should care about this little detail.

And you are forgeting Dornier J Wal, the Flying Legend released along with the Iberia World Update.
