Ok folks, I’m at wits end with the download performance on MSFS. On my lower pwoered laptop (1 year old core i5, 8gb ram, GTX1660 TI) I’m getting 60mbit/s download performance over WiFi. On my Brand new desktop (series 10 CoreI7, 32gb ram, RTX 3070) hardwired to gigabit Ethernet I only get 25mbit/second. Both are using SSDs, the one in the desktop is much higher performance M2 vs SATA in the laptop.
I’ve tried all the microsoft suggested improvement steps, changing network card settings, ensuring the game is set to unlimited, etc. Why is it so terrible? Are there any logs I can collect to check? I am really tired of waiting an hour every time I want to run the sim.
Use speedtest.net to define the difference between laptop and desktop both with UTP-cable.
Show me the ping-download-upload as in this sample
Let me know.
Who is your ISP and what is your internet plan (up/down Mbps)
Make sure you are connected to 5GHz.
Run Command Prompt (CMD) as administrator and paste the below then hit enter:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
Restart PC, resume download, and report back.
AT&T 1 gigabit. Speedtest shows 940 down and 980 up.
Already did that command. No result.
Is that over the modem/router or is that the internet speeds your PC actual has?
Does any other game library installation show higher speeds downloading games?
Actual speeds seen by speedtest on pc. i’m ■■■■■■ because most steam games are getting 500+mbit/s downloads.
Maybe its on Microsoft’s side. Wouldnt be the first time.
Assume by download you do mean downloading MSFS, not the data download within MSFS while flying.
You could try another DNS, Google for example.
the speeds at which the data come down during the game can vary significantly. I have found it to be the slowest during peak hours and weekends, which I am putting down to server load. It can be abysmal at times. I have started to now connect to servers around the world depending on what time of the day I am playing so I can hit those servers when it is off-peak. this has improved the speeds at which the game fetches data significantly. the ping speed to those servers is irrelevant to the speed that this game runs at and decision being made.

I’m getting 940 down / 980 up on the pc with pings at 14ms.
Laptop seeing 400 up / 440 down on wifi pings at 30ms.
#1 conclusion: bandwidth OK; ping 14 ms: it takes 14 ms to transport a package from the server to your location (!)
Next step: TRACERT
Now do the following:
Press Windows Start and type CMD then ENTER
type TRACERT 13.107.246.10
ENTER
Show me the table.
Which problems with download
are these exactly? When downloading FS updates and so? I found that windows own download optimisation struggles with big package downloads from FS. This helped
