Probably going to start with a DDU reinstall of my current driver (since this doesn’t seem to be affecting all AMD users on the current driver) and if that doesn’t work I’ll follow up with a full reinstall of the sim and report back here.
Full DDU, RollingCache clear, and sim reinstall later and the issue remains (though maybe a bit improved). Here’s a great example of the lingering effects of when the performance completely drops when the sim is paused:
These are both from sitting on the runway at a small, relatively remote municipal airport in the middle of the US in the stock C152. The left is what it looks like in the same session as the performance drop (in a flight after the pause issue occurred) and the right is a fresh instance of the sim. Once things “go bad” there’s no way to reset it without restarting the entire sim.
That’s fantastic to hear because it’s really something to see how amazing the sim can perform, so to only have it do that X% of the time is maddening
Hopefully this can be resolved, because if so, I can’t really say I have a single issue with performance in the sim otherwise. (I know this is not the case for others, but rising tide lifts all ships, etc.)
With .13 built I still have problems with Manipulators increase timings with 30-50% just by changing AC in the menu a few times and going back to same AC - also reducing fps with 30-50%.
I do believe our two specific cases are related, mine just shows up a little sooner perhaps because I have a less powerful GPU. The below is an example I just got in 1.4.13.0 that’s from before/after pausing the sim. Sometimes, like in this example, it may not happen until I’ve paused/unpaused a few times, but it almost always happens eventually (especially, it seems, with iniBuilds aircraft).
Oh, I also wanted to point out just in case any devs are chasing this bug, that while I previously said this only happened for me when AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation was enabled, I have been able to trigger the performance drop with it disabled as well - just don’t want anyone chasing any red herrings
Indeed. Especially ini-A/C (wasm bug?).
Manipulators going bad, fps reduced.
Just by going to menu, change AC a few times → manipulator timings permanently increased.
Not sure what manipulators are though.
Seen developers ask (fsreborne) what it is - some render thingie…
I suspect it has to with render time of wasm gauges etc…but dunno. Very little info on this.
I always see manipulators referenced as indicating lots of addon activity - which maybe WASM modules fall into that category as they’re fetching data from outside the sim as far as I understand it (which is, admittedly, very little on the technical side).
If this really is isolated to iniBuilds and isn’t resolved by the final release of SU2, it may be the final push to get me to buy the Fenix bundle
Testing in 1.4.14.0 and captured on the graphs the exact moment I resumed from pausing - and once it goes purple like that, there’s no recovery except restarting the sim.
Ok I think I hit this today as well.
For my repro it was: I loaded into the flight with a very high TLOD value (360) that spiked the VRAM usage over my puny 12GB. I tried lowering the value and even lowering everything to Low but I could never recover it from that. The GPU frame time stayed at 80-90ms.
If you’re asking me:
9800X3d, 64GB RAM, 4070 Super 12GB VRAM, Win 11 24H2
Medium texture resolution
LFMN Nice Just Sim 3rd party airport
And same, VRAM usage went under the max after lowering details, but GPU frame time never did, staying at around ~80ms or so.
I first went back to the menu and then loaded another flight. GPU frame time was fine, but I was still having very low framerate. So I restarted the entire game.
Yep, exactly what I’ve experienced - though with higher settings (but I’ve experienced it on lower as well, which is why I just stick with the higher ones). 9800X3D, 7900 GRE, 64GB RAM
Yeah, I basically gave up for now as I find myself troubleshooting settings more than enjoying the sim. The sim itself is too twitchy in touching those VRAM limits and as soon as it happens, stutters start happening. Depending on what you’re landing at (3rd party airport, etc. ) it might go well over the limit, even with texture resolution set to Medium and then you’re just stuttering all over the place.
It’s too frustrating at the moment and I can’t seem to find a collection of settings that just works with a nice amount of detail. I either have it looking worse than FS2020 but smoother, or better than FS2020 but more stuttery. Those are the only two states I can find at the moment :).
It’s great when it works though, and as long as the VRAM doesn’t reach the limit, the flight is 100% smoother than SU1 and than FS2020.
All of this is with the Fenix A320 btw. Running non-airliners, default aircraft, with smaller default airports, I can push the settings quite a bit higher and everything’s fine.
Exactly the same here - actually I’d even say running the 737 and 787 have been just as solid as GA, but anything beyond that starts to push it, especially the default iniBuilds Airbus fleet. I can get lucky and complete an entire flight in the A320 or A321 with “The Purple ” happening, but it’s always a risk in the back of my mind.
