Drzewiecki Design - KEWR

Wow a 5800x3D and its stuttering. What GPU do you have? Their airports do consume a lot of VRAM compared to other payware. KMDW and Chicago Landmarks fills up my 16gb of vram very quickly!

FPS in this airport is horrible. Worst out of all the payware airports I’ve ever tried. Also on a 5800x3d

KEWR is not that bad in performance compared to inibuilds. KLAX is just a nightmare with really poor performance hovering around the 20-25fps. My system is what you would consider OP as well. At least at KEWR, I am hitting 45-50fps on the ground maxed out.

You need to quantify horrible. Are you using a high TLOD? Have you tried dropping it to 100 say? Are you using AI add ons if so which and what density settings? I think given locations of certain airports next to dense city photogrammetry scenery it’s inevitablly going to see fps drops.

I was using KLGA freeware for example with my TLOD at 100, and saw reasonable framerates while departing, but dropped to single digit slideshow on arrival. Now that is a sim issue I think not an airport issue.

I also recently found I had some bugged AI models killing my framerate too. So it can be multiple things rather than just the airport itself.

I’ve found KEWR to be fine (as well as Ini’s KLAX and EGLL(V3)), but with my TLOD tweaked down a bit, and AI traffic dialed back a bit.

Also be aware that fps dips and stutters are usually cpu limitation situation, so do all the other things to drop cpu utisation like moving sliders for other traffic (airport vehicle, workers, vehicles, roads, ships down to say 10) they are CPU loaders. It all still looks ok without them being dialed up to 100 (default).

If you are GPU limited try with DLSS enabled.

Until the devs find ways of better cpu core utilisation, it’s always going to be about tradeoffs with this sim.

Agreed. No problems with KEWR. Looks great and much easier on performance than many others.

Just need to be careful with AI aircraft at the airport. It is a busy airport with lots of gates. Also, it is very close to JFK and LGA. This combination leads to a LOT of AI aircraft at the default AI settings. I find I need to tone down AI when in NYC, Chicago, or DC because of all the local traffic within 30 miles.

Saw a post on FB last night that there’s an update pending for this one with optimized textures and performance, as well as the ability (for PC simmers who buy outside the Marketplace) to disable interiors to ease the VRAM and performance issues.

The interior is so nice though. There do seem to be a few detailed airports these days with options available with the installers eg SD/HD textures, Interior/people toggle etc May not be possible if bought through in game marketplace though.

Are others getting a persistent Assertion failed message followed by a CTD when using this addon? Have a high end pc and have done well with other graphic intense addons. I just installed the update and still not fixed. Seems to be pointing at MicrosoftGeospatialTiles.dll.

Will try removing the detailed interior to see if that helps…

Just downloaded v1.10a and there’s a few new options available to enable/disable, static aircraft, interiors, passengers & parked cars. Downside now is that the internals have no seats and passengers are all squatting in fresh air inside the terminal. Woops. Is there a toggle somewhere for seats that I missed?

EDIT: I found out this is actually what happens when one of the options internal details and objects but not passengers is turned “off”. The Ini installer had the option wrongly labelled, but they have now corrected it.

Anybody with performance improvement reports using the new version?

I tried using the first version in VR during a livestream and it was unusable… haven’t tried with the new version, but hopefully the ability to remove detailed interiors, remove static aircraft/objects… hopefully that will help. Any performance PIREPS would be great!

How about you guys do KPIE, and KTPA, and get the jump on FlyTampa who has done Boston and Las Vegas. They do nice work, but as a Tampon, I’m feeling a little ignored by a company named after the best Class-B airport in the country, and the reliever where I learned to fly!

You think your Newark will work well with an i5-10600K/64GB/3080 combo? Because the default KEWR sux.

I just want to add that I’m running a 4090 with a 13900k and I have absolutely seen a performance DECREASE. Followed up with some VA buddies with similar rigs and they’re also seeing a performance decrease.

GPU won’t matter as CPU limitations are likely happening especially with high TLOD and AI traffic. Drop TLOD, and AI traffic (all types) density down to relieve CPU mainthread limited situations. Even with a 4090 you still have the same CPU mainthread limited situations as everyone else. The new version 1.10 now has options to disable some things like animations, static aircraft and passengers and interior objects. I have a 3090 and have managed to get acceptable performance with TLOD set to 140 (keeps Manhattan detail at bay), FSLTL with IFR 45, static 2, radius 60, all other in sim traffic (airport vehicles, workers, roads etc set to 10%). I’m also currently running DX12 with DLSS2 (but be careful as DLSS loads CPU a bit). not sure about DLSS3.

The problems seen with this lovely airport are not relating to the airport so much as it’s location next to JFK, KLGA, and Manhattan so use your TLOD wisely.

BTW does anyone know how the new airport options will be handled by in game marketplace? I see a potential future issue there as I haven’t seen airport options implemented in game before. So potentially a lot more people will be complaining about performance when it gets released there.

So what’s the final verdict on this airport? Has DD released any kind of update to help with frame rates? I’d love to get this one but I can’t afford to have a repeat of their KMDW, which is just a total slideshow and is the only aftermarket product I bought which I had to uninstall.

Very strange that some of their products have these issues and others (like the wonderful KDCA) don’t seem to be affected at all.

Any info is much appreciated.

KMDW just had a major update by the developer. It’s way better now. I used to have major stuttering and now it’s virtually gone. Hopefully they do the same thing to KEWR which isn’t terrible, but not great for frames.

Just circling back on this, has DD updated this as they did with Midway to improve FPS? I really want this one.

Not yet unfortunately. It still uses way too much vram and tanks the fps

For those having issues, what other NYC scenery/airports do you have downloaded?

I’m mostly an XBox user but even when using on PC, I found KEWR had worked fairly well without too many issues in performance. I have RK Bridges as well as SamScene3D NYC and FeelThere KLGA and it all works pretty smooth. When adding Inibuilds KJFK, I end up getting many more issues (CTDs on XBox, stuttering performance on PC) for the whole NYC area unless is installed by itself.

So it’s possibly something else is causing the performance issues, especially since NYC is such a high traffic area.

I was hesitant to buy this one after hearing about performance issues. I ended up purchasing it last week. Not sure if the posts I read were inaccurate or if DD updated the product and it helped performance but I’m very pleased with this one. Zero stutters and like all their products, simply stunning visuals. i711.7K, 16 gig RAM, 3060Ti with most sim settings in the high to ultra range.

Highly recommended.

Just curious - are you using any third-party traffic injection add-ons? FSLTL, JustFlight’s Traffic, or the sim’s on “live traffic?” The reason I ask is, I’ve found that for those of us not running the absolutely latest-greatest processors, those are the single biggest impacts on performance for me.
