Elevator Twitch - Thrustmaster HOTAS XBox stick

I started noticing last week that I was having all sorts of trouble landing my CJ4 (Working Title) using my Thrustmaster HOTAS stick on my gaming PC. I also noticed that on takeoff I was having problems keeping a constant climb rate (until I turned on autopilot).

Went into the HOTAS sensitivity settings, and found that the elevator control graph was very twitchy when activating the stick, while the aileron graph was very smooth. (Strangely, the rudder graph doesn’t even move when I twist the stick, but rudder certainly works when flying). I played with deadzone and sensitivity, but that doesn’t change the twitchiness. (I may try to post a video tonight if that helps.)

Yes, I tried unplugging/replugging the USB device, and rebootioning of course.

Guessing a bad stick Y axis potentiometer? Or should I try uninstalling/reinstalling the stick device from Windows?

As a follow up, I started twisting the stick in different ways in the Sensitivity screen, and something seems to have worked itself out, and now the stick is stable. However, I just got a can of electrical cleaner spray, so will have that handy if it degrades again.
