NO, this is the way it seems to be currently âDesignedâ.
As targets get closer, you should see TYPE | ALTITUDE appear below their Microsoft Name.
The Addition of DISTANCE would be a good improvement.
Unfortunately, because of the litigious and Politically Correct world we now live in, you are unlikely to ever see âCallsign IDsâ displayed, as MS has little, control over what Mischievous player might put there â although some form of âComputer based Filteringâ would not be that â â â â difficult for a â â â â computer to do !!
(They can â â â â do it here in the forum !!)
and I can also type a set of 4 white boxes, and leave it to your Imagination
All mods that you wonât have will be displayed badly, the way replacement planes is made is not very âeffectiveâ for multiplayer experience. So when a platename doesnât indicate anything else than tag, thatâs a mod/ DLC/ addon you donât have.
The whole multiplayer code is very bare, very limited, and doesnât even compare with JoinFS or other free tools that are available for other sims Iâm sorry to sayâŠ
I wish that very soon in the future, Asobo get their hands on that part of the sim. MSFS need a âreplacement settingâ tool to choose what other players planes we want to display as clients at least. I am for my part very sad to see many taildraggers PA28 (the âdefault replacement tricycle geared plane) witrh nose gear in the air and scratching their tail like sick dogs
It is an immersion breaker and doesnât look at all 'sim-likeâ in those cases
100% agree. A versatile FRIEND/IGNORE list system would be a great addition, where one could easily maintain lists of âuser readable/ editableâ Friends and IGNORE lists, as well as dynamically update them from within the sim when flying.
Maybe if there was a MP SDK ( ROFL - that will be the day - {sigh} ) , by now some 3rd party developer would have such a system designed and available
As much as I would like to see some options attached to the multiplayer display, I have taken to using GROUP ONLY. I have had enough barnstorming non-pilot sim jocks tearing up the sky around the airports. I have had numerous occasions where I have been cleared to take-off and been taxiing to the numbers, only to have a high speed taxiing TBM blow through my aircraft and take off in front of me. Or worse yet, on short final I had someone in an A320 at 300kts fly a side on attack through my nose.
I expect as the XBox release comes online we will see more and more âcasual gamersâ blasting about.
This is why I believe there are simple ideas which might prove working good. If this works to keep toilets clean, I donât see why it couldnât keep the sky clean as well:
I remember that discussion. Sadly, my faith in the general population has needed extensive graffiti removal far too many times. While I agree that your suggestions may reduce the number of âinteruptionsâ, it is just way too much fun to buzz other players or play chicken on the runways. My concern would be that by identifying what âlobbyâ the more serious simmers are flying in would just make it that much more fun, knowing that you were annoying the hell out of them.
Sadly, it wouldnât have taken much work to just change these two sentences in the UI, both from a technical standpoint and from a legal approval standpoint either. Should they have changed it earlier, we would already know whether it is effective⊠It might be Iâm just plain wrong though.
If it isnt legal it shouldnt be in the game imo. I want to see who and where or i rather wonât see anything at all. Especially not those grey boxes flooting with no meaning. I know i can disable it, but then multiplayer is no use imo.
Indeed. Regardless what online game you play, there are people whose entire fun is ruining someone elseâs experience. Griefers are everywhere and they care not about rules, lobbies, etc. And theyâre more likely to join into a lobby or session where others are trying to take their flying seriously, since thatâs where their griefing will have the biggest impact. Unless thereâs some kind of tangible repurcussion for engaging in such activities, theyâll continue doing what they do regardless of rules or lobbies.
Hence why I have multiplayer turned off unless I specifically want to join a multiplayer session.
fond memories of the free-for-all FSX multiplayer, with kids bouncing 747s down the runway and trying to ram everyone in sight, while everyone else is trying to make an attempt at flying properly with the built-in ATC in MP
Also, the jerks that would beg to join your plane in shared-cockpit and then immediately turn off every switch in flight
This can be fixed easily, the solution has been around for a long time in other multiplayer games: Vote to kick a player. If the majority of players on the server want to play realistically they can kick anyone not following the rules. But this would require different servers for different play stiles. There could also be mods on those servers requiring a certain play stile.
they might just play singleplayer and not be aware there are others at that airport.
If you set your multiplayer options to âallâ you can even see those that play singleplayer.
I have yet to understand what multiplayer is good for in a flight sim, tbh.
Apart from maybe a group flight here and there.
I have it on âallâ, but without nametags. I rarely ever meet anybody though, as I rarely land at a big airport. Maybe with nametags on I would see more players, but I donât like these boxes in the sky.
Even easier than that, switch to group only or fly only with people you know\sp , no surprises, no ruined flights, no misunderstandings about take-offs or landings, preferably with external atc (vatsim\etc.) and voip. Personally I donât even consider it a âproblemâ of fs2020, it is standard procedure on anything related to flight, on any simulator \ game \Simulator Game\ Combat Flight Sim\ Sim\ Airplane Game \ Arcade flight game \ Professional training flight sim \ helicopter flight sim\arcade helicopter game\simulator helicopter game\ etc.
Yep, VATSIM is of course the most realistic way to go. But I bet there are many people out there (like me) who aim for kind of a middle ground between arcade and realistic play style. And for those the in-game multiplayer mode could be a suitable way to play with friends. I for my part donât bother with multiplayer at all, single player is fine with me.
Just define a few globally available groups, from âdead seriousâ, via âIâm tryingâŠâ, to âI donât careâ.
Then make it possible to vote people to a lower category when they are getting annoying.
We have a GROUP ONLY option now. Add your trusted friends and they can join you in the air while all others are ignored.
Always an option, I agree. Unfortunately not available in many of the areas I fly.
I really couldnât care less about the other sim pilots buzzing the skies when I am flying. I donât remember ever having a need to seek out other pilots while in the air IRL and so donât tend to do it in a sim. I do fly some serious formation flying with friends. We just set up a group and go fly. Formation flying is a coordinated, planned event. Not something that can or should be done impromptu. Very unlikely I would want to join up with random pilots in the sky. Recipe for frustrationâŠ
