Engine Shutdown breaks immersion in VR

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Brief description of the issue:

One of the main complaints awhile ago was the logbook pop up as soon as you turn off the engines thereby breaking immersion during the shutdown procedures. This was “fixed” previously so the logbook didn’t pop up.

However since that fix it has made minimal difference in VR mode. When shutting down engines the logbook briefly flashes on screen in VR and your eye point view is reset as well as any of your open panels for checklists, Etc are immediately closed. This is a jarring experience and continues to completely break the feeling of a simulation. Even though this has been logged as “fixed” it has really not. Instead it’s just as immersion breaking as before and instead you just don’t see the logbook as long. This was not what people wanted.

I forgot that I do have a video of this issue: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ag_jgNx1a4E0g768dNctdUelRKi6vU0?e=Oi2XXl

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Follow the shutdown procedures at the end of a flight with some panels open and your eye point set outside of default. When you start shutting down the aircraft everything will close and your view will be reset to default. You won’t have made it to the end of the shutdown checklist yet.

Also, a byproduct of persisting beyond shutdown is always another empty log entry.

Not possible to take a screenshot as it happens so fast as mentioned above.

This action occurs whenever the sim determines a flight to have been completed. It is triggered when the aircraft is deemed as having been shut-down even before a full shut-down has been completed, i.e. cut the mixture in some GA aircraft is enough even though there are further shut-down steps to complete, e.g. turn off magnetos and/or battery.

The two most annoying aspects of this are…

  1. A quick but jarring change of view to a 2D view after which any adjustments of position in VR are reset.
  2. As this occurs mid-shut down it is very much a distraction which interrupts immersion in VR.
  3. Every flight ends with an addition entry in the log book that serves absolutely no purpose.

Quite frankly the “fix” to the previous complaint of the logbook pop-up seems to be a very crude and sloppy piece of coding to simply stop the logbook window appearing. For all the advancements MSFS brings to flight sims it would seem something much more elegant could have been introduced.

Would it be so hard to allow users to…

  1. Fly a route.
  2. Stop and shut down an aircraft, e.g. avionics off, fuel cut/fuel valves closed, generators/batteries off. Perhaps even allow developers of 3 party aircraft to trigger when their aircraft is in a shut-down state?
  3. Once 2 has been detected, create a log-book entry for the route completed.
  4. If the user then starts up the aircraft without quitting to the main menu, open a new log-book entry using their current position as the departure. If you want to be really clever, do not commit this entry to the log-book unless they take off.
  5. When the user shuts down again, use the current location as the destination and create another log-book entry. i.e. the same as would happen if the user had gone back to the main menu and started a new flight.

Impossible to screenshot but the problem is bleedin’ obvious innit.

It’s been this bug ever since they made that option to disable log after shutdown engines but in VR it resets view, closes windows and doors on some but most planes and yes breaks VR immersion completely. Please leave the plane totally untouched, unchanged after engines / Systems shutdown.

Forgot that I did have a video of this issue…I corrected that in my first post as well:

This worked fine in the past before Asobo forced a log book popup after you shut down the plan. Then Asobo added the option to disable the log book popup but now the screen freezes, the VR position resets to and unspecified preset. Why can’t this just revert back to the way it was before Asobo forced the logbook popup?

Still not fixed with SU9…

I don’t think these developers ever fly in VR else they would have fixed it, it is so annoying.

not only is the stupid logbook freezing the whole sim for seconds you also are moved to the left seat if you fly from the co pilot position and shut down the engines.

STILL not fixed with sim update 10 beta - but let’s hold our breath until they fix it in the sim update 10 final version.

Brief description of the issue:

At then end of a flight and turning off the battery system the VR viewpoint jumps forward, freezes then jumps back to the aircraft camera point default. This has been a bug since SU 8 and still not addressed.

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Turn off option in Miscellaneous to end flight on shut down. If ON at the end of flight when the electrical system is turned off the log book will pop up. If turned OFF when the electrical system is turned of the VR view point will jump forward, freeze and then reset to the default aircraft camera position. This break VR immersion completely.
