Enhanced Global Vegetation - Burning Blue Design

Has anyone tried this yet? Looks promising. I have Bjian’s mods so was wondering whether Burning Blue have achieved the impossible and built a better solution?

Could be promising if it delivers what’s advertised

It is a comprehensive global vegetation pass built from 358 XML files: 242 TreeSpecies, 34 PlantTypes, 61 GrassTypes, 7 CropSpecies, and 8 RockTypes

That is lots of effort they put into it; I be surprised after all that work is not doing what is advertised; it just make no-sense unless is a technical glitch.

If they work together it could be promising, but if not then I’ll stick with Bijan, his does much more than just biomes, including photogrammetry cleanup and aerial photo colour correction.

Looks very interesting and I may get it today. Price is very reasonable. I understand, just like Bijan’s (which I do not have) that photogrammetry areas are not affected by these kind of mods (am I correct??).

Also, what is the expected performance impact? Does Bijan’s introduce any FPS hit? Should I expect any from this? (I have a very good system and, with Lossless Scaling, I end up with 70-90FPS which is more than enough, so a small hit would be totally OK.)

Bijan’s does clean up a lot of photogrammetry trees in some cities, which this one doesn’t.

I’ve never really noticed any performance impact with Bijan’s, but then I’ve been running it for years, as I think it’s indispensible.

I asked Burning Blue about the difference with this product and Bijans. This is the response:

Bijan’s product is excellent and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We’re built more with a different approach than better, and some people will genuinely prefer his.

Bijan is a broad, asset-rich package. It ships custom tree models and textures, enhanced ground and terrain materials, terrain masks and seasonal art. Worth noting though: the custom models and high-detail terrain work are concentrated in specific showcase regions. Across the rest of the world it runs biome rules on the base-game tree models, the same as we do, so outside those areas the real difference comes down to how richly the vegetation itself is tuned.

Ours goes narrow but deep on exactly that layer: the vegetation itself, using and even colourising the sim’s own models. The whole focus is getting the right mix, density and structure of vegetation in the right place worldwide:

Ours has a far more granular species placement: roughly three times the per-region vegetation detail, from a much larger palette of tree, grass and plant definitions, so regions read with more variety and less repetition.

Region-aware density and height banding: dense forests where they belong, deserts and tundra kept correctly open, and climate-appropriate city planting.

Natural clumping into stands and groves rather than an even scatter, plus realistic low-ratio naturalised and cultural species as accents.

Staggered seasonal timing so leaf-out, blossom and autumn colour fade in gradually instead of snapping between states.

Both are biome overhauls, so you’d run one at a time. If you want custom tree art and terrain work in those showcase areas, Bijan is your pick. If you want maximum vegetation variety and ecological placement across the whole world, that’s exactly what ours is for. Hope this clears it up!

Excited to see a review. Will the package reorder or anything make both work, for example Bijan after this one is applied, or will it clash the same as 2 sceneries? With Bijan you can disable the colour overlay if preferred. I prefer the PG fix but not sure how well Central Europe is covered. Definitely keeping this in mind tho.

The beauty to have free seasonal masking; this might work well with Blue Design Trees; I well might have a go at it. simMarket: Flight Simulation Add-Ons - MSFS, P3D, FSX, XPLANE

I’m intrigued but also suspect this is one of those addons I’d install and never notice. I feel that addons of this type absolutely need to ship with before/after promo images or videos. From his screen shots, I could genuinely not tell you that wasn’t just normal default vegetation.

Edit: Oops! Didn’t scroll down far enough. He DOES have before/after images. Well… 1. A few more would be nice, covering different regions.

There’s one before / after and several with his addon.

This has definitely piqued my interest. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, here’s a report. I installed the Enhanced Global Vegetation.

First flight was around my home stomping grounds, Tucson. The desert vegetation in MSFS has always been funky. This improved it quite a lot. There are actually Saguaro cactus on the hills for the first time, although in places there should be more. The other, more “bushy” vegetation, is more accurate, not as big and not as plentiful. So I see an improvement there for sure. (Now if someone could come up with a fix for the default rivers which should be dry, not filled with water!).

It still needs more cactus variety though.

I will try more flights in more densely vegetated areas of course but so far it has been worth the purchase price.

I’m a dedicated Bijan user but this has also turned my head, especially if it has improved desert areas. Hopefully some bright spark will make a video comparison.

I would hope for the best of both worlds where Bijan and Burning Blue could collaborate to make the world’s scenery and plant life better :folded_hands:

I am 100% with Pilotfirst9999 on this. The default vegetation correction and clean up issues are so extensive that they are way beyond the scope of any single developer.

It would be great if, instead of producing competing products, Burning Blue and other late comers to Bijan’s niche negotiated a complimentary approach.

It has been done before, and the MSFS user community benefitted.

For example, after some initial competition (and thus wasteful duplication of effort), FreakyD and MisterCoffee1 negotiated a division of effort in producing water and vegetation fixes for the United States.

Yes. They are freeware developers. But accurate non-PG vegetation is important to me. So I would very happy to pay for multiple sets of complementary products.

@bijanstudio has always taken that approach. That’s why I have his Season 2024.

I just picked up Cli4D’s Iguazu and Victoria Falls because they compliment my earlier Iguazu and Victoria Falls purchases.

A shout-out also to Snoopy7412 over at FlightSim.to for his recent Algiers addon that ties together three freeware and one payware products with overlapping features.

Very interesting looking mod. I guess the big question is what happens when you enable both this and Bijan’s… Probably not a good idea. But would be nice to have the PG tree culling plus the changes this new mod implements.

I’m waiting to see some reviews. I have Bijans product…but I don’t use the photogrammetry changes.

I really like these types of products that improves the sim on a global scale.

So if this product really does improve on the rest of the world in a significant way I would very much consider it.

Perhaps the developer would consider creating a video to further showcase the product for all of us on the fence?

If it was on the marketplace… Id consider finally trying the “rental” option.

Went ahead and bought it earlier. I did some short flights in various places and must say, the tree coverage does look a lot more natural now! Less “machine-like” (unifofm/standardized) and more “organic”, both in terms of relative placement and size.

Not sure how much is placebo, but I’d say the difference is quite noticeable and I’m happy with the purchase at this price.

So you disabled Bijan’s?
