Enough power

I am planning to buy an XBox X. Will it have enough power to run FS 2020 or should I buy a gaming computer? Thank you.

Welcome.

Will it be powerful enough? Yes.

Will you get the same full experience with expandibility via mods? Likely not even close.

If you only want to play flight sim, stick to the PC (a LOT more peripheral options that way).
If you like gaming in general and don’t want to focus on flight sims, go with the xbox!

Thank you.

By going console you are limiting yourself from so many other options that enhance the sim experience.
There will be a ton of awesome 3rd party and best of all FREE addons that will never be available on the internal market.
Don’t expect a wide variety of hardware controls for the ever changing consoles either.
Definitely go PC…if you can.

Don’t buy a gaming computer…

…Build one. It’s really not hard at all, and alot of gaming computers you can just buy at somewhere like Best Buy already put together have lousy power supplies, suspect motherboards, lame SSD’s, and things will break/come loose during shipping.

This is a big reason why Apple saunters everything to their motherboards, it can’t break off during shipping.

Yes, I’m pretty sure it will perform very smooth at least with 60fps at 4k.
The only downside can be the lack of support for controllers, and to be honest, flying an aircraft with only the Xbox controller can be very difficult so building your own PC, can be a better solution…

While I don’t disagree, not everyone is technically inclined. You or I may find building a PC easy. To the average Joe on the street who knows little to nothing about computer components and how they all work, you may as well be trying to get them to decode the Voynich Manuscript.

If someone is able to, building is the best route. Next to that, buying from a local computer store (not a pre-built, but pick your own parts) is the best option. It may cost you $50 for them to build it for you, but at least you’ll know you have a working computer.

Buying online from average system integrators is basically a roll of the dice as to what you’ll get and whether or not it will even work when you get it. That goes for all the big brand names.

Hands down go with a PC. In fact, if it’s feasible for you, you may want to consider doing what I did and removing consoles from your life altogether. The only reason my XBox One still gets electricity is because it has VOD apps that my TV does not, but as soon as I get a new TV that has them, the XBox is outta here.

Last console I bough was a Wii for my kiddo for his 9th bday back when it was the newest Nintendo console, and like 4 years before, the GameCube for Xmas. Last console I personally owned for myself was the original NES.

#pcmasterrace for life.

EDIT: I did buy a used PS3 some years ago, but didn’t really game on it. Used it for Netflix, YouTube and Blu-Ray only. It died a couple of years later and never bothered replacing it.

Depends on how you plan to use the sim really, I hear Honeycomb are making an Xbox yoke now as well.

I personally prefer PC for the increased modifications possible.

I definitely agree with you Crunch…
I have a friend who is also a licensed pilot and loves the flight sims.
He has NO CLUE what is inside a PC, how to install “stuff” or how to fix “stuff”
For him to build a PC, it would be a total disaster. Installations and software updates are a challenge for him so you are right, one needs to be more than an average Joe if contemplating building your own pc for the flight sim.

Yeah, that’s the real downer about XBox. The only add-ons will likely be the payware available in the marketplace. Amazing free mods like the G1000/3000 enhancements, TBM enhancements, JMB VL-3 915, Bonanza Enhancements, FBW A320Nx, etc won’t be available.

Can you point me to that one? Sounds interesting…

I imagine though it wouldn’t be quite so bad if they can perhaps make the marketplace cross platform. And of course get the third party planes on them as well.

But as of right now, with Vatsim being impossible on Xbox and considering I have way too many peripherals on this PC, I would always take PC.

My favourite sightseeing plane now. Can go really slow without falling out of the sky (just ike the stock VL-3), awesome visibility due to the unobstructed canopy, and can climb and go like a scalded cat due to the Rotax 915. And some great included liveries too.

It’s not even a consideration for me. PC wins. All the time, every time.

But some people like slumping back on the couch and playing stuff on console. If that’s their thing, then good for them. It’s not my thing. lol

Completely agree with the others, go PC. Hands down.

PC, for the modding if nothing else.
