ERROR Crash: msfs error: dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006)

The 7800 XT is equivalent to a 4070 which although isn’t a bad card at all, is considered mid range. Before my upgrade, even my 4090 I was quite light on my settings, and my other hardware that accompanied it was relatively high end. Even now with a much better build than that, I tend to dial my settings down. I rather have smoother sailing than another tree or building. Although MSFS 2024 uses GPU’s much better than past sims, your other hardware plays a major roll. If you lack memory for instance and have lots of things loading at boot, a slide show is expected. I would say to just dial everything down as much as you can and then slowly (very slowly) bring one thing at a time. As long as the sim isn’t crashing, you probably don’t need to repair files, and I highly doubt it’s anything corrupt, it’s just demanding.

Also keep in mind that the HUGE difference with 2020 and 2024 is 2024 by default streams most everything. If you have great hardware and lack good (great) internet, then that too will slow you down. I prefer to download everything that is stated to work with 2024 in my library since I live with many others that eat up the internet bandwidth.

Yeah, I know it’s a mid-range card. I wasn’t aiming for a high-end card and my goal isn’t to play the sim on max settings; I just want stable and smooth performance. That said, it is a pretty big jump from a 3060 Ti, and I read a lot of reviews saying that the RX 7800 XT is a great combo with the Ryzen 5 5600X.

I did some googling and found a random comment on YouTube saying that if you lower your MHz speed in the Adrenalin software to 80%, it fixes this error. I tried that, along with some tweaking in the graphics settings, and it seems to work for now. I did two flights from big airports and managed to get 40-60 FPS on the ground (using BeyondATC with AI traffic) and around 100 FPS in the air. I also read on Reddit that BeyondATC sometimes causes this error, but for now, it seems to be okay. The internet shouldn’t be a problem in my case as I have 1 Gbps download and 1 Gbps upload, so once I’m sure everything is working correctly, I’ll download and install the rest.

As I mentioned last, I formatted my comp and made some mods to my case for mainly GPU sag protection. I followed the one thing that support mentioned that I haven’t yet tried and that’s to delete my cloud saves. I ran the dos command they gave me and then MSFS immediately launches with a message stating;

“We can’t sync your data with the cloud right now, There’s a problem with syncing game saves. Try relaunching the game or rebooting the PC to resolve it. If it persists, you can stop syncing data and play the game. However, in doing so, you might have incomplete data for this game”.

To me, it seems obvious I would get that message after just deleting the cloud saves, but I want to follow exactly that I’m told and not guess at what I don’t know.

I replied with this info and they once again asked me how I was making out with getting the store or xbox app working on the second account (a few emails ago I told him it’s not possible and was doing a format/rebuild, I even told him once it was finished with this last email, beyond frustrating when support doesn’t read). He also said the error “might be due to a low internet connection…”. I am literally shaking in frustration at such a comment after what I just told him. Last night I downloaded over 150gb of steam games in 10 minutes. I then ran the command again, and again, soon as it finishes, it launches MSFS with the message.

I’ve helped much more than I ever asked for help and have supported MSFS 100% fully until now. I feel like they’re trolling me at this point and no longer going to reply if they once again come back talking about advice given before the new reformat. I don’t need the aggravation either so will just try msfs down the road/runway if they ever fix it, or get support that reads what the person writes. Disgusted doesn’t even come close.

On a job site on my horribly laptop so my update is copy and paste from my reply to support last night. The TLDR is I believe to have the issue fixed, but having done so many things at the same time I cannot pinpoint which thing in particular fixed it (or made it so I could at least finally fly for more than 5 minutes).

My last reply to support-

“I did three tests tonight and had one crash. Formatted this weekend, fresh windows install, deleted cloud saves via cmd prompt, reinstalled msfs. MSFS is currently vanilla - No overclocks (not even memory xmp) - No mods - No RGB software - No monitoring apps (like Afterburner, GPU Tweak III) No addons (not even the world updates) - And definitely no ASUS Armory Crate - NVIDIA Studio Driver 591.74 (was previously running 591.86 Game ready driver). I do much more video and music production so tend to use the studio driver anyway, so doubt there is an issue with 591.86. Did some major mods to a duplicate case to improve my GPU sag bracket and added a sag stand (The Matrix 5090 is an oddly weighted beast). I also made some chassis mods to allow a better AIO that I can now fit perfectly. All hardware was transferred from the other case to my newly modded case, thus also taking the steps to re-seat everything. Lastly, my motherboard (x870e Extreme) had yet another new bios (3 in one month), so I flashed my bios again with the latest.

The flights -

1- KPIE - KRSW: Frame rate locked at 40 - 4k resolution - 1 monitor - Default Ultra settings (meaning MSFS defaults me at 200 LOD and all Ultra settings, so I left it like that for all tests, although I tend to tone them down, and never run it so extreme).

2- KJFK - KBOS: Frame rate unlocked - 4k - 1 monitor - Default Ultra settings - Game crashed 30'ish minutes in with the typical "dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006)".

3- KJFK - KBOS: Frame rate locked at 30 - 2k resolution but added back my other two monitors, so 3 monitors @ 2k - Default Ultra settings - Departed at 5pm to go into dusk and then into night - perfect flight. Not even a stutter, just some screen tearing since V-sync was off. I also downloaded the C172SP and used my favorite steam gauges for this flight.

Now that those test flights are complete, I will do as I tend to do and lower a few settings and start bringing back in my 2024 addons, like Navigraph, Chase plane, FS Realistic plus etc, and as I’ve done since FSX, keep a complete install log and diary of any hiccups between new additions.

I’m including a new MSINFO.nfo, AsoboReport-Crash and MSFSReport. At this point, I would consider it resolved for me, but will let you make the call and am fine with doing more testing if needed. I still believe there’s a bug to only get the dxgi_error_device_hung in MSFS and not in games that have brought my temps much higher than MSFS 2024. One thing that will always bother me though, is even after a proper uninstall, following the guide put forth by Asobo, that there were so many remaining things that had to be done for the “Correct Uninstall” to be accomplished. The potential for cloud saves to wreak havoc on ones game shouldn’t exist. During uninstall there should be a message that asks the user if they want to remove everything, to include deleting all hidden additional Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe folders and files. Nothing should remain in appdata, nor the windows registry. The xbox app and the MS store should also be fixed if they’re not properly uninstalling. Steam does a much better job since it prompts you for other data removal as all uninstallers should”.

I have to get back to work, but will at some point post everything support had me do to the xbox app, dos commands and powershell commands, such as how to delete cloud saves. Note that at no time did support mention other lingering folders and files that we all know remain, despite me asking several times. I eventually ended up letting them off the hook from answering because of my 4th format and reinstall. Only thing I did different at that point was deleted the cloud saves as told. In my opinion, it was the cloud saves causing my issue, because each resinstall of windows, I also ran every benchmark imaginable, plus Avatar and Cyberpunk at max settings without issues.

I keep getting DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG (0x887a0006) almost every flight on Msfs 2020 PMGD and Fenix almost always on decent or taxi after landing.Tried updating to the newest Nvidia driver along with DDU safe mode. Any suggestions please
