Brief description of the issue:

When launching flight simulator, I receive a notification from windows telling me that a program is trying to make unauthorized access to files that it should not have access to. If it was flight simulator that was requesting access to %USERPROFILE%/Videos, then I would be more likely to add an exception, but the access is coming from svchost.dll and I’m not comfortable allowing that.

Along these lines, Flight Simulator isn’t requesting permissions to access the videos library either, so its probably expected that these requests would be blocked, but either way this should be addressed as someone may be more likely to turn off malware protection because of noisy issues like this one.

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

In the windows settings app, search for “Controlled Folder Access”, and enable that. I believe the Videos and Documents folders are added by default as I don’t recall explicitly changing anything in those settings. With Controlled Folder Access enabled, then launch flight simulator.

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:

Winver 22622.575, It may have been new with SU10, but I think I have seen this in SU9 as well.

svchost is only a container… so hard to say.

Have you xbox-game-bar enabled ?

EDIT: short google session and there exists lots of topics about. It seems also the gpu drivers can cause that ( e.g. also shadowplay ? ) , but other stuff is mentioned.

I do have the game bar enabled, but I’m not necessarily launching the game bar at the time when the notification appears, and nor does it consistently re-appear on restarts, which does make it seem like maybe it would be connected to some external process.

I’m on the latest Nvidia drivers and don’t have geforce experience installed or any other overlay type things like steam running either.

I guess this will may be get access to videos folder, in special if you not changed the default recording path. And, if you not have disabled game-bar, it is running at all, so far I remember. But not sure whether a svhost process related to that exist. I have all of that MS stuff diabled ( I use e.g. shadowplay for recording and not need then the fifth game-overlay-stuff  ).

An idea might be to check the handles, e.g. with help of Resource-Monitor:

( its may be in english called “Associated Handles” )
