Esc key does not work

Hello everybody
I’m a newbie to msfs2020 (oh well. I was flying with FS from the 2000s) and I’m from XP11/12.
I bought fs2020 for vfr flight because aesthetically it is truly unsurpassed and, even if with some difficulty with the yoke and throttle settings etc. However, it happens to me that, once the flight is finished, the Esc key gives no signs of life and there is no way to exit the simulator except with bad manners. Where am I doing wrong? Because I’m almost sure I’m wrong but I don’t know what.

thanks a lot to whoever can help me

Hello and Welcome @faberberger
There are two basic options for getting out of the flight once you’re done. First, you’ll need to set the appropriate option for how you want to finish the flight.
Go into Options/Assistance Options/User Experience and look for the option to “end flight when aircraft shuts down” at/near the bottom of that list. Select “on” if you just want to shut the engines down and get the exit menu, or “off” to get the exit menu when you’ve satisfied you’ve done a full shutdown of the aircraft including engines.
If you’ve set it to “on”, once you shut the engines down (and some aircraft also require shutting down the avionics masters) you’ll get the logbook view showing up, and options to either go back to the main menu (end the flight), or continue with the full shutdown.
So the key is getting to the logbook entry screen, and you’ll have your option to continue/exit at that point.
Hope that makes sense…written too much from memory!
But from memory, hitting esc in either method should get you to the logbook screen, and you can chose to continue/go to main menu. If that’s not happening, then we have another issue.
Regards

Thanks a lot, I’ll try tomorrow

…and mom always said bad manners will get you nowhere. Apparently, it gets you back to Windows.

I’m sure an update from last year actually unbound the Esc key from taking you back to the main menu. That was a long time ago though.

ok, and how can i do it then?
thanks

If that were your issue, go into the keyboard bindings, and first of all search to see if Esc is bound to anything. I’m not at my sim to check, but I think mine is bound to “Main Menu” or something similar.

Make sure your Esc key is bound to this:

optional setting for Logbook at end flight:
Try it on and off, to see which which you prefer.

i think the toggle is all you need but that is default (mine works fine, and i did not remove that assignment, no idea why its diff)

if i go to default profile it show both like yours so idk :stuck_out_tongue:
my log popup is turned off, so i dont see it but esc works as expected

By any chance are you using more than 1 monitor? I’ve found with my 2 monitor set up if I’m clicking on things on my secondary monitor I have to click back on the screen of my primary monitor running the sim before my keyboard inputs will take.

If your mouse cursor isn’t in the window the sim is running in, the sim doesn’t get the keypress events - standard windows operation. Even if it appears to be in the window, you may have to actually click on the screen to get it to work, because focus doesn’t change to the sim unless you actually click in it somewhere. Then your keyboard may / may not work.

I’ll try tomorrow and let you know how it went

Well, I’m still struggling. I’m trying to pause the flight in-game and render a new window in Developer mode so I can fly from that window and record wing views from the main window. But it won’t let me do that. I need it dumbed down for me. Somehow deleted the key that does that. What is the function that will let me do that? I thought it was “active pause” but it is not

Look up few posts…

Bind esc with toggle pause.

Thanks. Perhaps I need to read more posts that I don’t think might exactly apply to me, but might give good insights and learn from others
