Description of the issue: Any GA aircraft I try to fly, included or even solid paid aircraft like the A2A Comanche, are very difficult to trim to straight and level flight, particularly wrt trim. Speed and vertical oscillation seem excessive and even in calm winds at an altitude when ground heating etc should not be an issue it is very difficult/impossible to achieve steady trim.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Always
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
Pick any GA aircraft (SR22 as an example).
Take off in calm weather preset, climb to 5000’ and try to fly straight and level with no/minimal trim adjustment.
Experience constant/consistent oscillations.
YOUR SETTINGS
If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.
What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?
[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
MEDIA
Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.
Perhaps you should share your rudder and stick info. I find that many airplanes require some trim, and many can achieve solid trim. However, many just won’t stay trimmed. I just make a note of those ones, and they stay in the hangar.
Also, I used to map buttons that I could hold down AND knobs that deliver one click at a time to my trim controls. Not every developer models their trim the same way. Take the 787 for example. That one requires the button trim.
Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.
The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.
If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.
If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.
All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.
How much is it losing/gaining and how long does it take?
Many ga aircraft once trimmed for level flight, will oscillate slowly over a few minutes, losing 50’ and gaining a little speed then climbing back, losing that speed and visa versa. It’s not not alt hold/autopilot that makes continuous milisecond adjustments.
Say 5000 is the goal. Going between 4950-5050 over a few minutes.
If you can get it trimmed like this, I’d call it nicely trimmed for level flight. It can take a few minutes to do this.
Trim needs continous attention and minor adjustment, any change to windspeed will require adjustment.
That said, sim trim is not infinitely adjustable like a real mechanical system.
0.1 is the minimum accuracy I do believe.
Thank you all for the feedback! I do have a honeycomb alpha and bravo. I happened to see a navigraph academy video about their recommended settings for controls and saw that the interval for those events can be possibly adjusted to make them less sensitive. Maybe I also have unrealistic expectations. I took a few ppl “investigation” flights many years ago and didn’t recall it being so sensitive but maybe it requires more active adjustment than I figured. I’ll play around and report back.
