Excessive Icing?

Flew the A320 from Schiphol to Gatwick yesterday and met a mushroom cloud type system over the north sea and experienced heavy icing @ 6000ft. Turned the de-icing on and dropped down to 5000, but the same issue. I’m no expert on the matter, but wouldn’t this be a problem at much higher altitudes? Was flying in live weather. Thoughts?

And what POH or checklists states about procedure?

I think the icing effect vs icing visual is much different. I personally think they went a little over the top on the visual. Makes it look a lot worse then it is. Same with lightning now…

Yeah, you get heavy icing even when flying through low clouds that may produce some drizzle, but that’s about it (think London or Seattle). It’s a bit on the ridiculous side. Sort of like all the thunder/lightning from clouds on a partly cloudy day.
