Excessive reflections, glare, tint & opacity - canopy

“We have amazing reflections on the glass!”
“What does the glass reflect?”
“Does that matter?”

I hope that the current 162 votes is enough for Asobo to actually do something about it. But then again, the “Implement Terrain and Weather API” thread has nearly 3,000 votes and is still ignored, so you never know. You’ll find a bug with 15 votes being fixed and a wish with 500 ignored.

Well, one good thing has come out of this. I’ve invented a new term: “WRONGTRACING”
Now we just need them to add a way to disable it in settings.

No! Even better… Since the reflections come THROUGH the aircraft, let’s call it:
"X-Ray Tracing." :upside_down_face:

Could one of the Community Team explain why this is still only “feedback-logged” and not “bug-logged”?

In one release, it was stated “Fixed interior windshield fully reflecting exterior for some planes”, so someone somewhere in Asobo has accepted there’s a problem that needs fixing, so surely this is an acceptance that this is a bug.

I should add that no one could actually find a plane which had been fixed.

Big up to Flak99 :sign_of_the_horns:

Some aircraft seem more susceptible than others. Has anybody produced a list of aircraft and how much they are effected?

I have found the Beechcraft very susceptible but Grand Caravan not so much. Guess which one I now fly? :man_shrugging:

Are they going to continue to ignore an issue like this which totally breaks the flight experience with such an over-exaggerated unrealistic effect, that the user can’t turn off? Medium/High has little to no effect at all on reducing it.

I can handle most of the issues with 2024, but this is a real experience killer when you can’t even see out the cockpit windshield doing a low-level run because the reflections are overpowering.
It does vary from aircraft to aircraft but there’s enough that are quite bad this should have been addressed a long time ago.

Does anybody at Asobo or Microsoft actually fly and test these things?
Even the supposedly “good” windshield reflections are unrealistic. It just doesn’t look like that in real life. We see past it, and they are minimal, but in the sim they are eye magents you can’t avoid.

Just remove it completely till you figure out how to do it properly, it’s not rocket science.
Leave the rain, though. They should be separate shaders so totally doable.
Or at least add a control to allow users to turn off windshield reflections of their own accord.

Please note that this issue is now bug-logged
The issue reported by the community has been successfully reproduced by our test team and turned into an official bug. The bug is now being assigned, prioritized, and worked on for a future fix.

Seven months to simply ‘log’ a bug and even that is after a member of the community has identified the problem (for the reflections at least) and implemented a solution for specific aircraft.

Utterly embarrassing.

Personally I’m not going to dwell on how long this took - I’d prefer to focus on the positive news that this had now been logged as a bug. Hoping the devs decide how to fix this soon!

Thank you for update. At least we now know Asobo has accepted this is an issue, and that it’s on a list to be fixed.

There are a lot of aircraft affected - I posted a list of the 30 I’ve found, though I’m sure even this is incomplete. It is not clear whether these all could be fixed by a change in the core simulator, or whether each plane has to be fixed individually (see the work by @Flak99). If the latter, I do worry that it’s going to be very slow and some will probably be missed.

Also, in such a case there needs to be an immediate directive to aircraft developers (internal and external) to ensure the same mistake is not present in future releases.

I see this topic is now included in the lifetime bugs list in the latest development update, and a solution planned for SU-4.

If Asobo really are going to look into solving this, I hope they realise it does not only affect the wrong reflections off the windscreen but also off many glass surfaces within the cockpit itself.

I’ve just flown in the KIng Air. Once I ascended into full sun above the cloud level, the MFU and PFD looked washed-out. Both had very little contrast due to the reflection of the clouds below the plane, making them difficult to read without zooming in closely. This is obviously inaccurate unless the floor of the cockpit had fallen off (which it hadn’t). It partially resolved itself once I moved into clearer weather, so it only reflected the ground, not the bright cloud layer.

I would ask Asobo to please fix this properly and completely. Too many fixes never fully solve the original problem, but are only done to “tick the box”.

I just noticed this in the PMDG-DC6! I also sincerely hope this is a complete fix for any type of cockpit glass.

Come on guys, this was reported in december 2024, we’re 10 months after release, we’re in SU3 and still no fix? A night flight is impossible, there are reflections everywhere in the cockpit, completely off anything reasonable (not even dare to talk about reality, just “reasonable”)

I really don’t understand the idea that Jorg keeps mentioning every time. I constantly hear that the streaming model, which so far has (at least in my experience) more disadvantages than benefits, allows MS/Asobo to push fixes without waiting for SUs. Nevertheless, everything waits for SUs.

Concerning the reflections off the other glass surfaces in the cockpit, this is what the Beechcraft King Air 350Ti looks like flying over Hong Kong:

The moving white blotches were awful.

If Asobo do get around to fixing the windshield reflections in SU4 as promised, these surfaces must be included as well - it is an identical problem ( the reflections passing through the plane as though it were glass) and therefore will have the identical solution.

For those of you in SU4 beta -

Asobo did say that the reflection problems would be scheduled for work in SU4. I’ve been regularly trying out the Daher TBM930 in the SU4 beta, and it looks like the reflection problems have now been solved for this plane.

I also tried the King Air 350Ti, but in this case they are still bad, especially the reflections on the glass instruments (as in my previous post), so it looks like they intend to do it on each plane individually.

Has anyone else noticed this improvement in other planes?

After further flights, about half the planes i’ve tested have fixed windscreens, and half not. I suppose these will be fixed in due course.

Although the Daher TBM930 has a fixed windscreen, the side windows are still showing funny reflections - I hope they’re not assuming that the windscreen is the only problem, when it’s actually several glass surfaces which may include the side windows and the glass instrument screens, for example.

Using the template below will greatly help the team reproduce the issue and ease the process of fixing it. Before posting, search for an existing report. If you are not sure it’s a bug, please first report in User Support Hub.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

When sitting in the cockpit of the Beechcraft Bonanza G36 the windshield is showing reflections from under the plane.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Always

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Simply load a flight in the daytime and you’ll see the ground reflections on the inside windshield which should not possible since the body of the plane would block them

YOUR SETTINGS

N/A

MEDIA

Not the runway lines from under the plane are reflected on the interior windshield.

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.
