The option to turn it off would be good enough for me.
As @KevyKevTPA pointed out, there are areas of the country that get consistent lightning in storms, and even with (what look like from the ground) clear skies.
Somewhat off topic, but, related, I remember one of my solo cross-country’s during my initial flight training, it was a beautiful pretty much clear blue sky when looking up, with maybe some pretty high clouds, but when I got up above 3500 ft, I couldn’t see the ground due to the haze. I had flight following at the time (a flight from KASH to KPWM), but they wouldn’t let me go lower. It was a little scary as this was way pre-GPS, and I was just a student. No lightning fortunately
