Excessive VRAM and RAM usage

This sim is a mess for me right now. I have 16gb of vram and it is full with settings on low. Something is seriously wrong. It also uses 40gb of my 64gb total ram. With my system I should be able to run everything on ultra.

Texture resolution is on low.

Thanks for sharing. After a month, I still have issues with RAM and VRAM. It is broken.

Same for me. I have a 13900k with a rtx4090 64gb ddr5 RAM.

Settings are Ultra with a 4K Monitor. Regardless of Settings iā€™ll get stuttering under 10,000 ft. Upon touching down the game will either crash or bad stuttering to the Gate.

Clearly this Simulator is not ready for prime time. They released it way to early, and we all paid to be Asoboā€™s Beta Testers.

Probably so some Executives could get their nice Christmas Bonuses.

Same here since the start from msfs2024.

I have a rtx3080 even on low (I play 1080p becouse of the Monitor) my game stutters as hell with low fps and vram is at max

Same. 4080 Super, 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 RAM

I play in 4K Ultra/high settings (same as I used for 2020) using TAA.

I sometimes get a really stable 45 FPS but more often on the ground the VRAM fills up and frames drop to 10-15 (with frame gen). Once above 10,000 feet Iā€™m getting 70 FPS but on approach the FPS tanks and I get awful stutters.

Thereā€™s something filling rhe VRAM and tanking performance on the ground. Lower settings donā€™t help. DLSS helps a little but then instruments are blurry. This is a mess, my system should be able to handle this.

You might want to bite the bullet and try to set Texture Resolution to MEDIUMā€¦ this gives me pretty stable FPS especially at low altitude and near the runway.

I did the same - i set texture resolution to MED and turned off Raytraced Shadows, TLOD set to 200 on ground and 400 at 10000ft AGL. With exception of excessive RAM usage from time to time, VRAM is under control in all scenarios.

2k resolution, Textures High, was able to use anything (Fenix etc.) on any airport in 2020 with DX12 without running out of VRAM.
I have a 4070ti with 12 GB VRAM.

Now in 2024 in the very same situations my VRAM usage is almost 50% higher. For example yesterday at Aerosofts EDDF with the A330 my VRAM usage was 24GB (12 VRAM and 12 being put onto the normal ram). I had 5 FPS (instead of 27 FPS on MSFS2020 with the very same settings and aircraft and scenery). Thatā€™s insane. For me the sim is unusable like this.
I mean if even people with 16 GB VRAM say itā€™s unusable on bigger airportsā€¦

Humm, may be some way around this but I set LOD to 50 and I still get stutter on the runway. I think I am going to give up pretty soon.

I also have 4070 TI.
Noticed the same about much higher VRAM usage compared to msfs 2020. Even when ussing default aircraft. (high texture settings). I canā€™t use big airports beause VRAM usage exceeds dedicated memory, starts using shared and FPS tanks. And also makes it not possible to us AI Traffic models, event at lower res.
I hope they can fix this soon.

Does anyone find any workaround? Itā€™s impossible to land or takeoff, specially if you maintain the sim opened for more than 1 hour or so.

If you use to undock any window panel (like atc window, instrument panels, etc). Try not to do that.
As soon as I stop undocking windows panel it stopped VRAM leaking. (I reproduce it consistently only when fixing frame rate and/or using vsync on via Nvidia control panel and using DLSS frame gen, at least with latest nvidia driver 566.36)

I was experiencing VRAM maxing out, usually straight after loading into the sim at a 3rd party airport in a 3rd party aircraft (i.e. Fenix). Running a 3080, 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5. FPS would drop to below about 15 and the sim was unusable. Iā€™d already set texture resolution to low, but kept most other settings high-ish.

What solved this problem for me was turning off ray traced shadows. Suddenly I can sit on the ground at most 3rd party aircraft in the Fenix and get 40-50 FPS with good visuals. There are (very) occasional dips in FPS but it always recovers.

If you are having VRAM issues then definitely try this out if you havenā€™t yet!

4080 Super 5800X3D 32GB 1Gbps connection.
and itā€™s really bad right now. I was out of ram sitting at KATL with the CJ4. Not impressed.

Tested 2020, same scenario no issues. Ran way better!

I have the same issues here. 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 RAM, 3080Ti. Single digit FPS within minutes. Awful performance still even months later.

Run 2024 again for latest patch.

Start with medium settings at a major airport with an airliner. FPS display on, keep a close eye on VRAM and nudge settings up slowly.

I was experiencing that issue quite often, but after uninstalling the Nvidia app I havenā€™t had more any issues with Vram. I even bumped up textures to ULTRA for testing and no problems. My specs are i7 13700F, RTX 4080 Super and 65 GB Ram.

I am not sure if this was it, but the sim now seems much smoother and stable to me. Latest changes I did:

  • Applied the latest patch (obviously we donā€™t control this)
  • Enabled HyperThreading again in BIOS
  • Changed the ā€œCUDA - Sysmem Fallback Policyā€ to ā€œPrefer no Sysmem Fallbackā€ in Nvidia Control panel
  • Uninstalled Nvidia App

I donā€™t know what it was, but it seemed like uninstalling the NVidia App did the trickā€¦ All my test scenarios are now behaving much much better and I see no degradation over time. Previously, if VRAM was exhausted, the sim would never be back to the original performance even if VRAM was freed and back under control.
It seems like at some point it was allocating shared memory when running out of VRAM, and then all memory blocks allocated in shared memory would be kept there until released.

Some input from the devs would be great hereā€¦

Iā€™ve been stable for months, running triple 55ā€ā€ HDTVs in 4K with a motion platform, Brunner FFB yoke and rudder pedals and more other components than I can even go into. i7 13700 32MB RAM and a 4080 with 16GB VRAM, 300Mbps hardwired internet.

Spent the whole weekend troubleshooting starting with the outage Saturday AM. System has been ā– ā– ā– ā–  ever since. Went through all NVIDIA and game settings all weekend chasing a VRAM memory leak. Only way I got rid of the memory leak was to move from DX12 DLSS (which Iā€™ve been stable on forever) back to DX11 TAA and now have all the drawbacks associated with that config.

Something changes starting Saturday. This platform is as maddening as it is enjoyable, probably more.
