External/Cockpit view bug

Description of the issue: I’ve got a bug in game where i cant go external/cockpit view via either my keyboard or hotas, when I’m in external view i press the keybind and it just flickers to cockpit and back again, and when in cockpit view and press nothing happens

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue: All Aircraaft

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Everytime

Sorry in advanced this is the first time I’ve ever logged a bug for a game and don’t really know what I’m doing

Hi @Whetter47 ,
Your topic has been moved to User Support Hub User Support Hub > Aircraft & Systems that is more appropriate for community support that hopefully will be able to help you.
If other users confirm it could be a bug, here are some recommendations:

  • prior to create a bug report, search for any existing ones to avoid duplicates
  • don’t delete the template. Fill in all the required fields, they are very important for the devs to reproduce it and log it into their system. Also it is very useful for other users that want to contribute to your topic using the embedded template.

Look at your screennshot.

Cockpit/External View Mode is programmed to the Backspace key.

Reset External View is programmed to Shift + Space

You have 5 other actions bound to the same key-press. [ which is why you see the small number 5]. Choose ’ scan by input’, press the shift+space, and see what other actions are getting activated. you may have to delete duplicate actions, because one of them is probably opposing the action you want.

Hi, I think you may be misunderstanding what “reset external view” means.
It sets the camera position to a point behind the aircraft looking forward (at least so it is in 2020).
As per your picture of the control assignments you just need the Backspace-key for what you want to do. Being in cockpit press it once to go to outside view and press it again to return to the cockpit.

Hi :slight_smile:

As @MSFSRonS said, your current binding (based on the screenshot) is the backspace key. Based on what you said :

My suspsicion would be that the “repeat” feature is enabled. On the far right end of the affectation line, you’ll see a gear to configure the binding behavior.

In this menu, check if the “repeat” switch is enabled and, if so, remove it. That will make the action be triggered only once when you click the button on your keyboard. Repeat for your binding on the joystick.

Hope it helps !
Cheers,
K.

I had the same problem, and this was the issue for me as well.

Which key are you pressing?

Your screenshot shows the Backspace key for Cockpit/External View.

hey yeah that is correct i press back space when in external view and it will flick back and fore but while in cockpit view nothing happens at all

It sounds like something else is forcing external view. Have you tried it with the stick and throttle disconnected?

yeah ive tried it with everything unplugged and just my keyboard

if anyone is available to contact me on Discord i dont mind sharing my screen so someone can take a deeper look into this issue

Any chance your keyboard is malfunctioning or has programmable macros tied to the key?

i dont think so as i can unplug the keyboard and also unbind it from the keyboard and still have the issue using my hotas

Have you tried simply deleting the setting and then rescanning for it? You could also manually assign it using the key list on the left and see if that makes any difference.

yeah ive also tried that many times

Weird. Might be worth a full reinstall. I use that extensively. Or just get used to using two different commands.

On the Controls screen:

Click keyboard
Filter = None
Top right, click Search by Input
Press Backspace key

Shows all mappings to that key (keyboard only).

There could be other devices mapped to that control.

For each other device you have:
Click that device
Filter = Assigned
Search = c (for Cockpit/External View)

See what is mapped on that device if any is.

I have the exact same issue, pressing the Cockpit/External view mode on the keyboard makes it just flicker once to the other view. My Xbox controller can use that function without a problem though.

For now I’m using my Xbox controller alongside my joystick since I’m lost at the troubleshooting part.
