Externally created flight plans start in midair for some airports

I have been using simbrief to create flight plans in FS2020. Mostly this works really well - press space on the world map, load the file, you’re off.

Lately I have noticed that some airports have you starting airborne, even though the flight plan file looks totally normal.

Here’s a PLN for a flight that works correctly:

And here’s a flight where the flight starts as “Airborne”

As you can see, they are pretty much identical - so I’m guessing there’s something up with FS’s parsing of these files.

This is what the first file looks like in-game

And this is the second:

You can see it correctly gets the name of the airport, but not the ICAO, and I can’t select runways or parking. Manually searching for K09 and setting it as departure puts me back on the runway but blows the whole flight plan away.

The simple answer is: the ICAO code for Piseco is wrong - it´s K09 and not KK09 … try K09 in the SimBrief flightplan and it should work

Happy flying …

Holy moly - I can’t believe I missed that! Simbrief requires you to manually type in your departures and arrivals and it puts a “K” before any three character airport code… and manually editing that K out fixes it!

Now to find a flight plan generator that doesn’t do that.

Doing a bit more research, it sounds like K09 and KK09 are sort of interchangable - I wonder where a more informed person than I would point the finger: should simbrief not add the K, or should FS2020 be better about interpreting both K09 and KK09?
