I started getting this a few days ago. Everything was fine with frame gen on then suddenly this awful stuttering at the start of a career mission, particularly in the cockpit. I turned frame gen off and it was fine. Yesterday I switched frame gen back on again and it was absolutely fine again. Very odd.
Been having the same problem for a week or so. It seems to be related to how long the sim has been running. The first flight after restart is usually fine. Then, it kicks in on the next or subsequent flight. Does not matter if it is free flight or career, although it happens more quickly in career.
I am testing shutting off Frame Gen now, without having rebooted, to see if it solves the issue. EDIT: The Frame Gen issue exhibits two behaviors: Loss of FPS and a âshuttleâ effect, where it seems like the video is bouncing back and forth between frames. With FG off, the shuttle effect is gone, but FPS is down to around 10. Restarting the sim, brings it back up to about 45.
Itâs weird. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes itâs great. Sometimes unusable. i originally thought it depended in the airport ai was loaded into. But have confirmed thatâs not it. Still random.
So, I did some research and made adjustments to my settings, and things improved. For a while.
It seems there might be a memory leak or something similar going on. The more flights you fly after a restart, the worse it gets until you restart again; I flew three this morning with no stutter or degradation. The fourth dropped the framerate very low. The lower framerate is in Career mode, although I also flew in Free Flight this morning.
It seems like whatever the problem is, it gets worse over time, which leads me to believe it is not a graphics problem per se. I am running up against the MainThread limitation, which is another reason I believe this is a processing problem and not a graphics problem. Also, the audio crackles when it starts to slow down, with the crackling and pops getting worse as the framerate drops and the stuttering worsens.
One other note - not sure if this makes sense, but the framerate goes UP when I click off to another window. As in, 33-50% higher framerate while in that window. When I click back to the sim, the framerate goes back down to where it was. Last night, I saw 30fps when the sim was the active window, and 50-55fps when I clicked into another window.
ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue: Jitters when FG enabled in MSFS2020 and 2024.
[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Yes
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time a frame drop happens
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
- Spawn in, in a resource heavy area
- Pan camera around until it goes jittery
- Unable to use ALT+ENTER (WORKED PREVIOUSLY) to reset FG. (see video).
YOUR SETTINGS
If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No.
[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?
DX12 in MSFS2020. This also happens in 2024.

I had this issue before a few times but I was solved with alt+enter workaround.
Now this wont work anymore, turning FG off does solve this, but after turning it back on the issue is still present.

I observed this: sometimes after changing the application f.e to browse and then switch back to the Sim,
The Sim is frozen for a few seconds but it always recovers, everytime after that recovery when it unfreezes the Picture is flickering when panning with Frame Gen.
This is 100% reproducable.
Another observation, when I minimize discord or another application on top of the sim the tearing is gone, it only shows when the sim is on top
There is no way to recover from this.
And no, its not the refresh rate. My monitor is running with 160hz and no application is limited.
Im on an I9-14900KS, RTX4090, 128GB DDR5 and latest Nvidia Driver
I see MS/asobo are not willing to help - so we have to do it ourselves. I suspect this is a Windows 11 24H2 issue.
Is everyone experiencing this issue on W11 24H2?
This canât be a MS2024 issue - it happens on 2020 too.
The alt+enter workaround no longer works, as described by @BlackFleib
Have this issue on Windows 10.
yes, Ive seen the same Ryzen 7800x3d, 4070super. msfs 2024 (incl su1 beta).
no mods installed.
using the latest Nvidia drivers (though its been doing it on older drivers too)
Ive noticed is powering cycling my monitor will stop the stuttering.
so, its appears to be some kind of loss of frame sync issue.
(if you set the vsync in the Nvidia control panel to ON (fast is default), this seems to stop it too)
only appears on msfs, not seen it on other games.
We are talking about 2 different issues in one thread here, I feel.
One issue is the frame jittering that can be resolved, by using the alt+enter method
The issue that I, and many others, are having, and trying to report on but keep getting merged into this forum, is the issue where this jitter cannot be removed by any other way than restarting the sim.
I have noticed that, for me, itâs not a MSFS issue. This happens on both 20 and 24. The effects and outcome are the same.
Iâd be interested to know, if people, who are having the issue where this jittering cannot be resolved are/have tried any of the following:
Windows 11 24H2 (check about this PC to check that)
Changing the nvidia app setting âUse DLSS modelâ to âlatestâ in an attempt to use DLSS4
Have the latest nvidia driver 572.16
Have SPECIFICALLY RTX4070 Ti/Super/TiSuper series graphics cards
Please, everyone, do reply to this so we can find out whatâs causing these jitters. Iâve not been able to fly for a week now, itâs driving me crazy!
Hello, Windows 11 24H2, latest Nvidia drivers, and RTX 4070 Super here, and I have the same issue. Enabling vertical sync in the Nvidia control panel seems to help but does not completely eliminate the problem.
GENTLEMEN!
We have light at the end of the dark dark tunnel
I take ZERO credit for this but this fix by a reddit user worked PERFECTLY for me!
Youâre welcome
I already did this and it did not resolve the issue. Sorry
Please reference my earlier post - as the OP you are having an entirely different issue to many in this thread, and one that can be temporarily resolved by using the alt+enter fix. That fix was for the people who canât fix using alt+enter
