Can I first start of by saying that I’ve been a huge Microsoft Flight Sim fanboy since MSFS98 was released.
This game is unpolished. In fact, it doesn’t even work. What kind of “next gen” sim doesn’t recognise by joystick and auto configure it? Every other flight sim has done this without any issue, but Microsoft struggled.
The flight dynamics are a joke. I’ve played flight simulators on my phone that handle better than the 747, 787 and a320 neo. Extremely disappointed that Microsoft would allow them to spend all their time on satellite images and not do much work on flight models etc.
Lastly, I’ve requested a refund for {mod edited} flight simulator. I will return IF and WHEN it improves to a point where it’s a respectable flight simulator.

Curious, what joystick do you have?
Keep in mind this is still day 1 of release, fixes and patches will be rolling out shortly. And 3rd party content may bring much better flight models and more accurate planes.
Lets give it some time.

Some cheap powerwave joystick. I don’t use joysticks normally, I fly in VR so I don’t have any need for an expensive one. It shouldnt be based on what joystick I have or don’t have. Literally every other game (including non flight sims) have instantly recognised and calibrated this joystick.

Just curious… How does flying in VR eliminate the need for a quality controller?

You grab onto the flight stick with your VR controller. You interact with the throttles, flaps etc with the VR controllers. You never touch your joystick… unless you are in DCS.

Oh, wow! I’ve never seen that in practice. Sounds amazing! 
People need to seriously relax with regards to the development of this sim, the dev work has not stopped just because it launched yesterday.
Patches will come out
Sat imagery will be updated
more free/paid 1st party content will come out.
3rd party study aircraft are on the way (PMDG 737)
more features are being worked on
The SDK will be made available to the public at a future date (go make your own airport or update a local airstrip)
From a technical standpoint this sim is doing a great deal

I went out and bought a t16000m Hotas system .. everythings great and pre-mapped. Couldnt ask for better .. Sim works great with it.
Maybe time to upgrade fella.

SDK is already available to the public. People already released freeware airstrips.

I think you’re forgetting humans worked on this. I’m not too impressed by the flight models, but as a dev who has released work online before, I know how unproductive, annoying, and disrespectful it is to just point out problems. Some things require a LOT of effort. Take for example a game/mod with some buggy animation. If someone was to just say “the animations are super wonky, please fix it…”, they don’t know perhaps the underlying problem is your rig doesn’t work well with your complex animation state system, and to just “fix it” would take 100s of hours.
Anyway I have looked at the SDK and it’s pretty ■■■■■■■■ fleshed out so there is huge opportunity for freeware / payware development. Given how freaking awesome the base is, you should hold on to your copy and be super excited for the future!

Noted. I will hold onto my copy given that some more tech savvy people here seem to be confident about its development.
But let the record state that I’m not at all impressed with it out of the box
I know it’s frustrating. But that’s how the software development works in 2020.
Release it early, finish it later. If it’s broken af, put an early access tag on it.
Most of us just learn to live with that.

Make sure you have every driver for your yoke installed. You need to manually add the axis for the joystick. My friend has a CH Flight Sim YOke and got it fixed through manual. Microsoft FS Team cannot just set up over 100 joysticks..
I simply wish that those who are expressing their disappointment (usually for good reasons) would not then go on to use emotive/inappropriate language which makes it sound like they are right and others who are not as disappointed are wrong. This so often in the past has led to acrimony. The more we can be dispassionate about our problems, the more likely we are to get help. Cheers.
