If it isn’t I may be downloading/installing FS2024 for a month.
I’m certainly hoping that marketplace content downloads improve dramatically, but since they haven’t got a handle on it in nearly 1.5 years I don’t hold up much hope in this regard.
I’d be surprised if its any different, really. The issue is mostly about what the servers can offer, not what the client can take, and certainly not what your connection can support.
One benefit is that although the sim is going to be streaming even more data in 2024, it sounds like it will be optimising what it streams to you, though I don’t see that helping us during installation, updates, or purchases, only when actually flying.
maybe the financial transaction was slow going through or couldn’t be verified so the download was intentionally slow? There has to be verification. Who knows how many different servers that takes.
That has to be the craziest explanation I have seen for the slow downloads
If the financial transaction had not been cleared you would not be able to download the product.
Yes, exactly. It allows you to start downloading but it will go slowly and then start looping at about 60%.
No. I don’t mean to be rude but that is utter nonsense. They are not going to let you download a product, no matter how slowly, until the payment has gone through. When you shop in a supermarket you can’t just walk out of the store with your purchase whilst the checkout is still pending the authorisation of your card.
The slow speeds have absolutely nothing to do with pending payments. I can download a dlc I purchased weeks ago and have it come at a decent speed. The same day I can download another dlc I purchased weeks ago and this one will come in at a very slow speed.
I think you misunderstand me. I am not saying that all slow downloads are due to a failed financial transaction check but due to past experience trying to buy things using a debit card on a weekend or on a holiday and then trying to immediately download them and having the experience I described, I came to the conclusion that failed verification of transactions was the cause of my personal issue and it may be the cause of others. I could be completely wrong.
I know that some are still having slow download issues as all of us had (it seemed) for a long while but mine have gotten better overall.
You claimed in your case a failed financial transaction check caused the slowdown, but that simply isn’t how it works. The transaction is either pass or fail, and there is no “in limbo” mode that lets you still download the product while it waits to approve. Not sure exactly what happened in your case, but I think it’s safe to say it was more a circumstance of a fluke than anything.
I am also joining the slow download party! After five hours the 7GB update is at 70%, wow!
(I have a 100MBit connection)
greetings from austria (europe, not australia)
That’s interesting I have a 2Gbit connection, and I generally get around 100-200Mbits per seconds. So definitely as you say an issue, but as my broadband has increased over the years so had my download but definitely not to the max capacity of the connection.
If you buy MSFS 2024 you won’t need to download the WU any more.
they fixed it?!
this is interesting, yesterday i launched the sim and it downloaded a 600mb mandatory update at around 70 mbps
then i downloaded the update to WU3 at around 180/200 mbps
then i downloaded wu17 at around 3.8 mbps, it took hours and hours
whats the deal with the different download speeds
I DL’d WU3 at about 5Mbps and then restarted both the sim and my X Box and when I got back into the game the marketplace was reportedly down so I didnt even try. just shut down everything.
I certainly wouldn’t say that 27 MBits is “fixed”.
I found this too. The mandatory update and the UK update came in acceptably fast (100-200 speed). Then I immediately went to the marketplace to instal Inibuild’s EGSS to compare it with the new default EGSS, and the marketplace download hovered around 24 before dropping as low as 0.2.
My MSFS drive started to fail so I’m having to do a full reinstall. I was hoping to copy the files to my new HDD and just point the installation to that, but some files were corrupt so its a back to square one thing.
I’ve had MSFS since launch (Windows Store version) and had to install it 3 times way back and all were an utter slow painful nightmare. However, lately the world updates have all downloaded pretty swiftly for me (UK) so I was hopeful…
Nope.
As slow as treacle. At this rate its going to take me days to install the core game before I even get started on the content manager.
Its beyond ridiculous.
AND… if they had a ‘verify game files’ feature that could have just redownloaded my corrupt files, then I wouldn’t have had to do a full download anyway… Saving strain on their precious servers !!!
2024 won’t be any better. Its pathetic.
If I had a 130Gb download on Steam or Ubisoft or Epic and it took over 3 hours I’d be moaning that it was a slow day. MSFS is probably gonna take me over 3 days to reinstall.
I just purchased a gaming PC to fly MSFS. Got things set up, and then set up the install. It took a solid day just to install the core game prior to being able to download content.
DL speeds between 4 Mbits/s to 16 Mbits/s highest, but much of the time averaged at about the 5-7 range.
But I do have to say, it was definitely worth going from playing on an Xbox X series to PC with high end video card. The game is gorgeous and runs great on my machine.
So I will keep downloading content bit by bit, and will get there soon (and pray for no mandatory updates in the meantime).
Today has been a strange day for downloads. I’ve seen it DL at 70 - 80 Mbps (my max) but lately its been around 40Mbps.
This morning I started by test downloading a small file (UK2000 had a lib update) and that went quick so I then told it to download my four remaining uninstalled UK2000 airports and the first two went quick and then it slowed down to about 4Mbps but it did complete.
I quit FS, restarted the XBX, started FS and told it DL one 1.2Gig airport and it went from a high of 3Mbps to .39Mbps.
I would really expect that purchases made through FS were no different than other purchases. Why are they treated so different!?
I want Jorg, Seb and Martial to all get make 10 purchases on anonymous machines and then download them and just see if they can and take pics to prove that they can. I don’t think they can.
BTW - if this isn’t a bug, then what is?? (because I see posts were moved here from the bug report. If you don’t fill out the form, it doesn’t count? If the doctor doesn’t say you are dead then you are not?? hmmm.
