Failing to update

  • It took 14 hours to download
  • I flew twice total of 45 minutes
  • It then started asking for disc 1 (its a download) 2 hours spent still the same
  • next day it started an automatic update UK and Ireland, hangs around 90% 1 hour spent still the same
  • following day reported the issue to Microsoft, good response and loads to try:
  • App Settings - Repair, UK and Ireland update failed around 70% 1 hour spent
  • App settings - Reset, UK and Ireland update failed around 40% 1 hour spent.
  • App Settings - Repair again, UK and Ireland update failed around 30% 30 minutes spent
  • App settings - Reset, hang spinning the starting up screen 0%
  • Uninstall and clean out any folders 1.5 hour spent
  • Reinstall - hangs at 4mb 2 hours spent

I think this should be renamed to Microsoft Aircraft Engineer Simulator, as I seem to spend more time trying to fix it than fly it! The only error log just says “Could not open file” does not say what file, does not say where…

What version of MSFS did you get?
Are you installing to a custom drive/folder?
What type of drive?
What type of GPU/Drivers (the installer will use the GPU)?

I brought the standard. Nothing added or tweaked, and the PC is just for flight SIM. I have now got it downloaded, took six tries! and it hangs at exactly the same place UK and Ireland Activities.
