It doesn’t work in World Photographer mode either, as confirmed by Hairstreak.
Indeed it used to work (at least) in WP mode, but only with default map, not with satellite images¹. But a few weeks ago when I tried it I could not make it do anything any more, so I too believe it’s broken in the mean time.
¹ Flying with the default base map in the wilderness is pretty useless, as it shows nothing typically, no visual clues. That’s why I always use satellite imagery in EFB as a means of orientating in VFR. And the image overlay unfortunately was never working with that.
I did a quick seach in Bug Reporting Hub with the fauna tag & did not see a topic on this, so you could create a bug report for this as you say it is no longer working.
Residents of Upper Loon Creek (U72):
I think they have all escaped from a petting zoo as they are quite tame and approachable! ![]()
New location for Chimpanzee; Sapo NP in Liberia. NE of GLGE. Quite a lot of them, a few in the open. Also plenty of forest elephants.
Everyone landing there deserves a welcome committee.

Searching for the Proboscis Monkeys can be quite tricky as they always seem to be hidden in the jungle. Here’s a location in northern Borneo where they aren’t! Several big groups in this coastal area. Also Crocodiles; the first I’ve seen outside of Australia and a few even by the water!!
Wow, I had so far failed to find crocodiles anywhere else, like in Florida or along the nile where I had expected them. Nice to see they exist somewhere else too.
Like the Proboscis Monkeys, the chimpanzees are usually hidden in the jungle. I’ve found a coastal site in free flight where they are in light scrub. NW of GUKR in Guinea. There are a few small villages where they are also wandering about! They run away from planes, but seemed unconcerned by the balloon. It’s like planet of the apes!
Another one of the “missing animals” ; Bactrian Camel. Found in free flight in the western Sinai peninsula; around HEFME. I found two groups on separate flights, like their one humped cousin they lie down at night. This isn’t within the recognised range of wild Bactrian Camels. there were also plenty of Dromedary camels along the coast. Enjoy.
Had not expected this any more, having searched for it so long. Well done!
P.S. Earlier you mentioned the Desert bighorn sheep - Ovis canadensis nelsoni
I searched at their natural habitat like in the Mojave desert (USA) and only found the “normal” bighorn sheep there whose model is a domestic sheep (bug report exists). That’s why I concluded it’s likely not used - unless, maybe, on a place far from its natural occurrence.
Hi
EarthFlight42
Glad you found the camel! I was lucky, I overflew in a 747 (where I have the simobject console open as a sort of “Animal Radar”!) They popped up; but when I went back in the balloon it took me a while to find anymore! very scarce.
Like you, I’ve only found regular Bighorns, not e Desert bighorn sheep - Ovis canadensis nelsoni. Only ever males, like regular sheep Ovis aries . Never any females. I think your summary on the bug report is spot on. Have you tried searching for the other sheep, Barbary, Mouflon & Stone’s? I’ve had no luck with them so far.
No, I haven’t looked for them specifically, and I wouldn’t even know where to start. Therefore I concluded that I have more … well … more promising things to do in my spare time.
With the Bactrian camel it was strange: I flew along and parallel to the whole west coast of the Sinai peninsula with the Sky Rascal and didn’t find them. Then I concentrated on the area you described, circling at a larger height around this area and scanning back and forth … spent three quarters of an hour this way. Not a single Bactrian camel, just plenty of dromedary camels south of HEFME.
It was only when I had given up and was decending for landing on one of the airfields directly along the coast (HEQ04) that they popped up on the sand stretch near the town there.
Makes me wonder: Was it coincidence or does the Bactrian camel only spawn when so close to the town there or maybe does it only spawen when flying at low altitudes and I had been just too high the whole time. I don’t know.
The home of Bactrian Camels is Central Asia, not the Arabian Peninsula.
Indeed. But the Asobo devs seem to have their own opinion on animal distribution ranges and habitats for many species.
I searched for them in central asia first, but didn’t find them there. (Which is not a proof they might not rarely spawn there too.)
