Faux VR With Virtual Desktop & Opentrack

Hello all, I know proper VR support is coming to the sim in the future. My use case is a bit unique in that I"m legally blind (Ocular Albinism). Proper VR seems at least in DCS to make things WAY too small and too far away for me to see. By using Virtual Desktop and Opentrack I get the best of both worlds in that I can see well enough to enjoy my games and I have the head-tracking. I use this for all my gaming and PC use. The head-tracking is only for flight simulation. Here’s a quick and dirty video of me trying out a beta available today on Steam. In this version 1.18.1 if I’m correct, the voice command “headlock” was added so I don’t have to fool with the Vive controller to engage/disengage the headlock Is it perfect, of course not. Nothing beats 20/20 natural vision. I can however enjoy the sim at a level I never dared dream possible. I hope this is of some value to someone.

I’m anxious to see your video, I’ll check back in a little later as it has not finished processing.

I’ve been using this “poor man’s” VR too, it works great. Not perfect, but still pretty amazing until we get the real VR.

Yes, it’s a popular solution. Virtual Desktop now allows the voice command “headlock” to engage/disengage it. That’s what I was most excited about. Prior one had to map it to the controller or keyboard etc. At times I disengage it because in my HTC Vive the video is swimmy for lack of a better term. The recording I captured looks fine. I don’t know what if anything I can do about this. The Vive is four years old. It may be time to upgrade.
