FBW A320 Development vs. Experimental

Hi guys,

I’ve been flying the development version of the FBW A320 and have really enjoyed it. I recently watched a video from a content creator using the experimental version and the new EFB looks like a great upgrade from the EFB in use on the development version. I read the disclaimers on the FBW installer regarding the experimental version and was curious-has anyone that’s been using the experimental version seen a lot of bugs during a regular flight or have you had smooth flights, and have you been able to successfully complete flights on Vatsim? I’m tempted to download the experimental version but I’m new to working with experimental aircraft. Any thoughts or feedback are greatly appreciated.

I use the experimental version at least daily.
I do try to keep it up to date though, as it is upgraded at least daily as well.
Some of the versions have had small quirks, but nothing to prevent a normal flight.

The same I have used experimental version, did 3 Flights, yesterday..No major issues. Just minor bugs, but very successful flights.

The bugs a very minor and most of the time I never realised it. And I use experimental version daily and keep it updated everytime before I start the sim.

I had been waiting for them to get more feedback on VNAV performance and pushing fixes before switching. No one on this thread has seen any major VNAV issues?

It’s getting better by the day.
Just finished a flight with VNav that went quite well, but it’s not perfect yet.

Thanks for the feedback. I just downloaded the experimental version and I’m looking forward to my first flight with it. If VNAV is the only issue/bug I’d be very happy with the amazing work FBW has done so far.

I use the experimental version regularly, also. There are occasional issues – for example, for about 24 hours, the Flypad failed to work – but overall, I find it quite exciting to use, as it incorporates all the latest software developments. As noted, it is important to check for updates every day.

Is anyone else experiencing regular CTD’s with the FBW Experimental version lately (since VNAV implementation I think).

I’m trying to establish if its either a sim-something or a FBW-something, as I fly this one the most. CTD’s werent at all usual for me before, so it must be something, somewhere.

No not at all, I’ve done probably 10-15 flights since then.

Thanks! Then I should be investigating further.

It seems a bit like a memory leak or something. I noticed how it crashed today as Pacx loaded in a cabin announcement. Might be on to something here.

It is known that the more extra’s that are used, the greater the chances of a CTD.
That’s why you see it mentioned to not use AIG or Realtime weather if you are having lots of issues.
The Pacx may be adding to that issue.

Yeah I’m not one with a ton of addons in general, but I never experienced CTD’s before. Well, hardly anyway. EVen with Pacx and FSrealistic running. I disabled FSRea a week back, but still isn’t great. I noticed how my harddrive said there had been a ‘volume bit’ drive error, so just had that fixed. Here’s hoping I can be back on no CTD’s again.

At least good to hear its not a FBW thing.

How are you all doing with Experimental these days? I haven’t switched from Development yet, but it’s been a couple weeks since I have thought about it. Any bugs of note bothering you?

I’ve really been enjoying the expiramental, only had one issue, selecting an arrival into KMIA on the MCDU on one occasion, but it was resolved the following day when I downloaded the next available update. I’ve been flying with the A320 at least once a week(I also really enjoy the A330 since thier most recent update). Like others have mentioned, if you keep it updated daily there aren’t many issues flying with it.

I haven’t had any weird bugs since I started using Experimental since last year. As OP mentioned, just keep your version updated regularly before you start the flight, and they should be fine. VNAV is working as it should, although I’m still “fighting” with the default ATC during descent. So I’m still working on working to find the balance on when to use managed descent and open descent.

But overall, Experimental is very enjoyable for me.

Following their GitHub page it looks like the new flyPad changes are still coming fast and furious, but if VNAV is relatively stable now, I guess it’s time for me to go back to Experimental.

The new FlyPad is interesting, but it only took me a few minutes to get used to it.

Is your sim stable now? I have the same issue. When I am using the FBW (any version) I experience regular CTDs.

I use the experimental A320 FBW at least once every day, and have never had a CTD from it.
If you have any other addons, I would try with the community folder empty.
Also, you should ensure you have the latest version of their installer, and use it to uninstall your current A320 version, and then re-install it to ensure you don’t have some legacy items that shouldn’t be there.
Bear in mind, the experimental FBW A320 is updated at least once a day, so you do need to ensure you have the current version before each flight with it.
