Feeback for devs

Am I disappointed? Yes, however, I’m going to try to keep this civil and not rant about the plethora of shortcomings the sim has in my opinion. This is by no means all inclusive, just the major observations that I have made with the short time I spent with it.

*Some of this may be included and I just can’t find/don’t know how to use.

1.) In sim UI. Please consider ditching the current expandable buttons for navigating in-sim menus. It’s a bit annoying to use the buttons for some things and hitting escape for the others. Take the dev mode ribbon at the top and place everything on something like that. That is pretty much how all other sims work and it works well, there wasn’t a need to fix an already almost perfect system.

2.) The camera… where to begin. This is another item that needs to be completely scrapped and re-imagined. It is too complicated, you can move this camera, but not that camera and the free camera takes 12 buttons to operate. Please, if there is an adventurous person on the dev team, buy X-plane, look at the camera system and… do that. Basically, the camera should function like a no-clip fly mode in an FPS. Also, please release the internal camera from cockpit jail.

3.) Scenery, mostly good, however some smoothing where photogrammetry meets autogen. There is a clear visible line at the seams, at least in the area I was flying. That and, I’m sure this will come, more consistent photogrammetry coverage, I was flying through an area I know has the data, but, sadly it was not in the sim.

4.) Planes. Do you guys have something against round instruments with needles? The sim is sorely missing vintage aircraft. The airliners need more functionality, for example, only two buttons work on the Airbus’s ECAM. Also, and yes, I know some people will roll their eyes and sigh, but the airliners need their cabins modeled, this will be especially important for VR immersion.

5.) VR, ASAP and for all HMDs, not the new one nobody owns. This really should’ve been a much, much higher priority. Also, when you go to implement this, do not lock the camera to head position. Allow the camera to be adjusted independent of the HMD location, I hope that makes sense.

6.) SDK, not good. Again, please send out that same adventurous dev to look at X-plane’s WED. Also, paintkits for default planes, while not essential, would really help navigate the messy UV maps. Lastly, at the very least a model viewer so as not to have to wait through all the loading screens just to look at the paint. There is more that needs to be done here, but I haven’t dived into models yet, textures are enough of a chore for now.

That’s all I’ve got for now, I know there is more, but I can’t think of it at the moment. It seems like a good foundation that was release too soon, but the weather is great.

+1.

I agree, and all 6 of those items need to be brought to the front of the cue starting with camera.

Camera controlled with a gamepad is great. So please do not change that. I also disagree with the UI comment. For me it has been intuitive and easy. Better than FSX, XP11 or Il2 (those are flight sims that I have played). So yeah, personal opinions differ.

Concerning 2.) Camera… I just made a control interface yesterday for the camera on iPad using TouchOSC and a midi2key converter… Just to control cockpit (including the movement of pilot within the cockpit) and external camera, it takes 82 (!) Buttons to move them around… But once you assigned all these buttons to the keyboard controls in Flight Simulator, it turns out, that the buttons don’t always do, what the description in keyboard controller menu told what they would do… So another source of bugs there…

Hard disagree.

The ui is just bad, its as if was made for people who are legally blind. Its extremely blocky for no reason. And the fact that the sim is rendering full blown scenery in the main menu and hogging pc resources is mind blowing

UI is humongous :expressionless:
It needs scaling option.

It has scaling

I must have missed it.

Point 2. As with other items, no need to buy X-plane, only apply old MS recipes

I agree with some of those. But not all. Airliner cabins would be great, but would impact performance for the worse.

For vr though… I’m not sure how it will ever be good. Everyone is struggling to even get descent framerate allready. Imagine the poor performance in vr. They should improve performance first so everyone can benefit from that. And then consider vr. (Yes i have vr. Oculus. Never use it though. To hot. Not clear enough.)

For the camera i mostly agree. But on the other hand i just use cockpit camera’s and they work good enough. It’s easy to make custom cameras and switching between them. Also nice to move around with arrow keys and press 1 button to recenter. For the drone camera and all i don’t really care. We don’t even have a replay function so…

Do hate the cockpit collision box though. No reason to have it like this.

The buying x-plane bits were more or less a joke. However, the two items I mentioned in comparison, X-plane does better than FSX ever did.

no replay. so really no point in any of the camera stuff. unless youre autopilot or on ground. near useless.

I’m setting up Touch OSC, too. It works fine with keystrokes. Have you figured out how to use faders and dials, or how get midi2key to keep the keystroke repeating until you release the button?

I have to disagree on the cameras. I find the current camera system very useful. I use a HOTAS setup and have it all mapped out nicely. I like the UI the way it is as well.
