[Feedback/Suggestion] please apply V-Sync to Menus & Add Static Menu Backgroudn Option to limit needless GPU strain

Dear devs, I love your sim, and I’m sure this is not the first time you hear this, but I believe this need to be said once again now that the game is out in the wild.

The menus feature a fully-rendered and animated scene behind the options which is frankly pretty useless. We can’t even see it fully, so it isn’t even useful to look pretty.

Since V-sync doesn’t apply to menus, it all runs with unlocked framerate and on non top-of-the-line GPUS (anything from a GTX 1660 ti and lower) utilization is stuck at 100% while idle, even with the window not in focus. This means heat, spurious part wear and tear, and even crashes in menus.

I’d kindly ask you to implement two possible solutions

1: Please apply our V-sync settings to menus. Possibly add an option to limit frame rate ONLY for menus for those who want higher frame rate while flying. We absolutely don’t need more than 60 FPS for a background that we can’t even see fully.
2: Please add an option that replace the animated background with 2D images to completely cut needless GPU usage. Of course, the world map would still have to be animated, but funnily, that’s the menu with the LEAST GPU usage (40% vs 100% on my 1660 ti).

Incidentally, for those reading this post who want to mitigate the issue (especially when experiencing crashes in menus) you can limit your framerate for the whole game in your graphics card control panel.

It’s a stopgap solution and pretty awkward, but it helps.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Instead of using v-sync, you could try a program called “Rivatuner.” It’s a lot better than V-Sync and has less input lag.

I’ll give it a try. Thanks. We still need this addressed at the developer level, tho.

I second that. Please remove the 3D animations from the menu! This will help reduce GPU usage like you mentioned.

We really just need a proper adjustable built-in framerate limiter, rather than just relying on Vsync and the half/third options. That would take care of the menu heat problem and give us some granular control over GPU/CPU load.

I requested this in zendesk several months ago in alpha testing … nothing yet. Dont hold your breath guys.

Yes and no. Of course it would mitigate the problem, but let’s be honest, all the heat (and wear and tear) generated by rendering a 3D scene behind the menu windows is is absolutely unnecessary. We can’t even see that scene.

The ultimate solution is simply to let us set an optional static wallpaper.

That would be an additional setting, not an alternative to the adjustable FPS limiter.
