[Finally FIXED] Fixed a potential crash and stutters using FSR Frame Generation on NVIDIA Cards

Continuing the discussion from Sim Update 5 Beta (1.7.6.0) Release Notes - February 13, 2026:

Not fixed!

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

In developer mode, with Smart Docking System enabled, selecting Frame Generation AMD FSR3 in the MSFS settings causes an immediate CTD on NVIDIA GPUs - tested on an RTX 5090.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every Time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Launch MSFS 2024 SU5 beta.
  2. If Frame Generation AMD FSR3 is currently enabled, disable it (select NONE)

3. Confirm > save and back.
4. Open Developer Mode.
5. Click the Options tab and make sure Smart Docking System is enabled (checked).

6. In MSFS settings, select Frame Generation AMD FSR3 - wait for the CTD.

If enabling Developer Mode and turning on Smart Docking System along with Frame Generation AMD FSR3 causes a CTD during loading MSFS 2024 SU5 beta, the following workaround can be applied:

Open usercfg.opt file and edit FrameGeneration line so that it has NONE (which simply means frame generation is disabled) instead of FSRFG or DLSSG.

Save changes.

Then launch MSFS again and open Developer Mode. If there’s no CTD, while in Developer Mode, go to the Options tab and turn off (uncheck) Smart Docking System.

After disabling Smart Docking System, you can enable Frame Generation AMDFSR3 again.

YOUR SETTINGS

On a daily basis, I do not use Frame Generation AMD FSR3 or NVIDIA DLSS . Developer Mode and Smart Docking System is turned off. I enabled Frame Generation AMD FSR3 and Smart Docking system specifically to force the CTD and report the bug.

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

First of all, I am on 2020, but I have had this for quite some time as well after perfect frametimes and smooth sailing all the way before suddenly I had to start the sim numerous times to get somewhat acceptable frametimes, but it was a lot worse.

I went through everything I could think of like you have, but then I read about checking latency and also hard pagefaults, which turned out to maybe be the culprit for me.

I ran latencymon and I got literally thousands of pagefaults on a few processes, but MsMpeng.exe which is part of windows defender had 99.99% of them all, so I started to look over my exclusion folders and quite brutally I excluded my program files (both) and my appdata folder for testing (all MSFS paths was added before), and I got 0 pagefaults meaning my disk not being “talked” to by I would say some of the worst, windows defenders. Hopes weren’t high starting the sim, but my frametimes and stutters have reduced back to where I had them I would say. My system is overall very clean and optimised, but I believe I tried to remove both program files folder exclusions and it was still smooth so one day I will have a look through my appdata to what defender struggled with (and would probably continue to).

They added a warning and introduced changes to how the Smart Docking System works.

The important thing is that there are no more CTD so it looks like the workaround (fix) applied by Asobo works.
