First Solo Flight: "Downing Leg" scoring broken

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

The “Downing Leg” part in the First Solo Flight up to at least Patch 3 does not seem to ever give more than 49%, even if there are no deviations from the instructions during flight. This makes it very hard to get an A. This problem has been described multiple times in the forums, but I could not find a bug report:

Is Downing Leg on First Solo Flight working?

First Solo Flight training mission downwind leg

Take-off on that exercise is also giving low scores without explanation sometimes, but this is only a minor nuisance.

Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes, yes.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you?

Always.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Fly the mission.
  2. Get a score of consistently at most 49% for the downwind leg (maybe 50% is possible if if were 100% otherwise?).

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

No.

What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

GeForce RTX 4090.

What other relevant PC specs can you share?

RAM: 64 GB, CPU: AMD 7950X3D

The scoring isn’t great because it is unnecessarily picky, but I got in the mid 90s for that leg.

I can’t do any of those scored missions because I dislike the way it scores so much. I go for realism, not scores.

I can’t find sources which get more than 49%. There are more reports:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/1gx3ye9/is_downing_leg_on_first_solo_flight_working/

Videos are also showing similar values (47%).

Also, the unexplainable take-off scoring is mentioned again. Even though the take-off rating does not seem to be limited, it’s unclear why often scores are quite low, even though acing the previous exercises with “A” was easy, but dozens of repetitions in this exercise do not give a similar result. Getting an A is still possible, but it’s unexplicably hard for these reasons (mainly Downing Leg, though).

If this works for some users: What is different? Does one need to adjust the altimeter’s pressure setting? Does it work for users with some assistance turned on (all off here)? Does the Sim penalize setting flaps at some point? Is the rating penalized for slightly staying on a different side of the target value (80-81 vs. 79-80 kts/8000-8020 vs. 7980-8000 ft)…? Getting 48-49% quite consistently across at least a dozen flights is just weird and it’s clear that some part of the scoring fails, most likely one of altitude, speed or flight path.

Im not having this exact issue, but it is close enough. I cant find where to post a new topic. I am trying for the life of me to complete the first flight in the career mode after restarting. Everything goes fine until I start to climb out on takeoff. The game doesnt recognize the upwind leg and will not let me complete it. Ive overflown the airport and it doesnt do anything.

The downwind leg of “First Solo Flight” seems to be fixed in the SU2 update. It may even be somewhat too easy, but I now got 100% on my first try while I have never seen anybody complete this part with more than 49% before.
