Hi Asobo. In the patch notes, you mentioned that landing on a frozen lake will result in a crash right now.
I’m here to say, if you decide to fix it one day, please don’t make a blanket fix to allow any landing at a frozen lake, without considering the temperature. Since this is a flight simulator, we don’t want you to waste your time modelling the complexities of ice thickness, the duration a lake has been frozen for, before determining whether a certain plane with a certain weight can land on it. Modelling the complexities of ice thickness, length of time the lake was frozen, whether the ice can support the weight of the plane, in my opinion, is not a good use of your time since you have other high priority bugs to fix and important features to add.
Having said that, if you enable landing on ice one day, just a simple check of the temperature before you allow a plane to land on ice would be realistic enough for me. Because a frozen lake at -1 degree Celsius will have very thin ice and it’s doubtful that a plane could land on a lake that has been sitting at -1 degree Celsius temperature for some time. Maybe do some simple temperature check, like if the temperature is -10 degrees Celsius or colder (I am picking -10 degrees Celsius out of thin air, but maybe you can think of a better value). If it’s a frozen lake, and the temperature is -10 degrees Celsius (or whatever value you choose), then a plane can land on it.
