Can somebody please help me with the below issue I’m facing?
Whilst cruising to my destination prior to descent, I am experiencing a flashing barometric pressure in hPa, in the Vision Jet Garmin G3000. When I reach my destination, the barometric pressure stops flashing.
Is this something to do with the RNAV approach pressures being out of sync on the captain and first officer’s sides, as Chat GPT suggests? If so, how do I go about rectifying this?
I’m new to flight simulators and I’m, still trying to get my head round a lot of the systems and jargon, so if somebody could explain it as though I’m completely green to this, then that would be ideal!
Normally that only happens at transition altitude (which can vary by country) and it means your altimeter is reading a number versus the text message “STD BARO”. The way to change from a number below the altimeter to reading “STD BARO” (and actually ensuring the standard pressure is set in the altimeter) is the press the end of the “BARO” nob to the right of the PFD. Note that it’s the one that says “push STD”. BTW, you may have the standard pressure dialed in (29.92 or 1013), but that button is a built in system capability to help ensure pilots are at the right setting.
Transition altitude is where everyone at/above that altitude uses the default standard barometer setting so everyone is reading the same. Suggest you take a quick look at it in Wiki.

I believe (I’ve been wrong before!) the transition altitude in Germany is 5000’ (or the metric equivalent). It’s been a very long time since I’ve flown there…
I’m sure there are some better qualified people here that can answer with more confidence than me.

Is there a way to get that information from ATC? They usually give the QNH prior to take off but I don’t believe they ever gave me the transition altitude.
I imagine this information can be heard when tuning to the ATIS, but with how problematic the ATC Comms are in career mode, I’m always weary of messing with it and tuning to different frequencies.
I’ll give it a try anyway and see if your suggestion fixes my issue, and if so, I’ll mark it as solved.
It must have been the transitional altitude. I just tested it on a flight between NY and Canada and it happened again at around 18,000ft. Set to STD and no flashing.
IMO, wherever I’m flying, if I don’t know the transition alt, I just set it to standard in the climb as I don’t use ATC and just climb to my cruise alt. In the descent I would regularly hit the key bind for setting the altimeter and it’ll set itself.
I’ve had to resort to doing the same myself, but I just find it more immersing to set it myself and trying to follow ATC. The good thing with the G3000 in the Vision Jet, is that I don’t have to worry so much about the transition altitude since it flashes if I go above it.
In much the same way as weather, you can look at the departure charts from a nearby major airport to get that information. They will generally not vary much in given region. In the U.S. it is always 18,000 feet and FL180. England is generally either 5,000 feet or 7,000 feet while a few places are 10,000 feet. Australia is pretty much 10,000 feet.
The transition level is usually, but not always, similar to the transition altitude. However, in some cases such as when the transition altitude is fairly low the transition level may be higher. For example, the transition altitude my be 5,000 feet while the transition level is FL070. Whatever the case, the charts will tell you both values.

Interesting, how did you find out ?. ATC was giving you FL below 180 instead of altitudes in feet ?
I don’t think the insim ATIS provides this information.
I don’t use the built in ATC, can’t stand it. I knew European countries use a lower transition altitude than the US and from flying around like the OP I’ve had the Baro in certain planes let me know I should be set to STD. I believe the last time was departing Amsterdam in the 772 but that was a while ago and haven’t flown in Europe since then so don’t quote me on that.
If you use a 3rd party ATC then maybe they can manage different transition altitudes per regions. I was referring to the ingame ATC that as per my knowledge manages just one.
Transition altitude for Germany is 5,000 feet MSL so it makes sense.
But I guess (again as per my understanding), the way how the aircraft systems and the ATC manage transition altitudes are separate. Insim ATC doesn’t manage it per regions, it is all the same worldwide (18,000 ft) whereas some aircraft systems may be able to manage those transition altitude base on the region and you that is why you can see it flashing in the G3000 indicating you are about to reach it.
