Flashing coastline at MKJS and terrain anomaly next to airport, radar sitting on top of a towering spike. The sim did something strange at startup causing me to reconfigure a bunch of my settings. Currently, on version 1.39.9.0 as seen in the screenshot. All system and graphic drivers are up-to-date. Nothing in Community Folder (disabled everything) but do have a payware airport from Final Approach Simulations purchased from the Marketplace seen in back ground of screenshot. Video attached of nearby water (coastline) flashing.

Hi, seeing is believing, but what might be the definition of a ‘mod’ as you stated? When I took my screenshot I had no ‘mods’ in my Community folder. As I stated, the nearby aport MKJS is a payware which I would presume should not cause this problem as it would be reported by others that have it. Would there be anything else you would suggest to isolate the terrain spike?
I was doing some island hopping around TQPF on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean and the water all around that island was also flashing. When I spun my view around looking toward TNCM on the island of Sint Maarten the water was fine (not flashing). Odd.
Disable MKJS and whatever scenery you could have purchased on the Marketplace. There is no guarantee because an addon is coming from the Marketplace it will not cause any issue.
Hi, don’t know if you saw my last post, but the coastlines are flashing in other areas around islands. I have found you need to be fairly close to see them flashing. The areas flashing seem to be related to the areas that Microsoft worked on to make the waters look better around the islands. My graphic drivers are up-to-date. I’ve tried adjusting various settings to see if it had any impact but no luck as yet. If anyone has any hints I’m all listening. Here’s another short video over the island Anguilla after departing TQPF.
Okay, been working on this and finally found the problem. Even though I had removed all addons from the Community Folder I found it was a payware addon located in the Content Manager. There is an addon by Taburet called Caribbean Water Mask MSFS. After uninstalling this addon all the flashing stopped. When I reinstalled it the flashing resumed. The water masking applies to most islands around the Caribbean. I have submitted a bug report to the developer. So, if you have this issue try uninstalling this addon if you have it. Case closed if the developer can resolve this. BTW, the terrain spike in the first post is a separate issue but haven’t figured that one out yet.
Hi DementedCorn327, I’m going to try that as soon as possible. Evidently MSFS 2020 just got a boat load of aircraft updates that are downloading as I type, and it is taking forever, each one is in the gigabytes and I can’t delete the MKJS addon until the aircraft updates are finished, but I will try to update you ASAP. I’m curious myself to see if it is the payware? BTW, the developer got back with me about the flashing coastlines around the Caribbean asking me to try switching from TAA to DLSS, but that too has to wait until these downloads get finished installing.
Okay, worked on the spike issue and problem solved. Found it is not the payware, but rather a combination of the MKJS payware scenery from Final Approach Simulations and the World Update XVI: Caribbean scenery from Microsoft. In the World Update XVI: Caribbean scenery, there is a hill adjacent to MKJS airport opposite the shoreline that has a radar station at the top. If the payware scenery by Final Approach Simulations is not loaded, all is good, but if the payware scenery is loaded in combination with the Microsoft scenery the spike shows with the radar on top (the surrounding hill has been flattened causing the spike). If the Microsoft Caribbean scenery is removed, then the payware can also display correctly with no anomalies. So, the solution is to disable one of the scenery addons.
The Microsoft World Update XVI: Caribbean scenery has multiple addons associated with it one of which is the MKJS airport. If you expand the addon it will list each and you can then uninstall just the MKJS airport and install the payware from Final Approach Simulations without excluding all the other enhancements from Microsoft.
One further update about the flashing around the Caribbean. Got back word from the developer, who suggested changing from TAA to one of the other settings. I had been using TAA for a while without issue until now. I reinstalled the addon for the Caribbean water masking and changed from the TAA setting (found in your MSFS graphics settings) to another such as DLAA, and the flashing stopped. Furthermore, I then tried each of the other available settings, and TAA was the only one at issue with the addon. Since I’m using an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, I switched to the AMD FSR 2 setting with no FPS impact. Still getting 70 fps on average and the main thread is running green with no stutters at around 6 to 7 ms. If you’re using an NVidia graphics card and run into this problem, you may want to try the setting native to the NVidia card, such as DLSS. Hope the info helps.
