Flashing effect when switching between external/cockpit views

Are you illustrating the weird graphic flash between in and outside views?

That cropped up early in the beta and has been there since.

It bugs me every time.

Yes that flashy thing

Title updated updated to reflect what the issue is.

Great , Thanks

Is this caused by motion blur in Graphics Settings? Might be worth turning that off to see if it helps?

It seems to me that there were more posts in this thread just yesterday - did you guys happen to check for any keybinding conflicts? It seems to me or maybe I just dreamed it? Or did those posts magically disappear somehow?

You are right @TenPatrol. I initially thought the issue was an uncontrolled swapping between cockpit & external view that is why I recommended to check the bindings. But then seeing @NixonRedgrave question to clarify and OP’s answer I realized the issue was different (flashing effect) so I deleted all non related posts about binding to avoid confusion.

@GimbalAxis I just tried all the motion blur options Off, Low, High, etc same issue.
@DementedCorn327 Look at the mountains in the background.

So the root cause is when switching views, the sim is now programmed to jettison what is going out of view to make room for what is coming in to view. However, I think the function is not polished - and you are seeing things being drawn clunkily in haste. I had a severe zooming motion like this when changing cameras in a previous build (which is why I suspected motion blur). I had to reinstall sim and have not had issue since (although I’m away and have not tried the current build yet).

If there has to be a cost to switching camera views, perhaps a slight delay so more can be rendered before the switch, reducing the negative off-pitting effects?

Good insight, Sounds like it’s a rendering load issue when the sim dumps and loads assets between views

But it still shouldn’t be quite so jarring. I think @NixonRedgrave had suggested at least the cockpit not be jettisoned (as much) since one always returns to the cockpit. There’s an even more extreme consequence - if you have the aircraft on the ground and use the drone camera to explore, the sim will stop rendering the ground under the plane if you travel too far away, then you get a message that says, “you damaged your plane, the flight has ended” or something to that effect.

Agreed, Retaining cockpit/plane assets in memory would likely smooth out transitions, Also i’ve noticed that switching within cockpit, wing, and engine views doesn’t cause this flashy effect but it does hit FPS pretty hard for micro seconds.

I had continuous intermittent flashing only in VR cockpit mode. Had Foviated Rendering Scale set to 38. I changed it to 50 and no more flashing. Smooth as silk.

I9 12900, 64gb ram, Pimax Crystal Super, RTX 5090

This is precisely what both sims were doing before the SU4 beta. Switching between cockpit and external views would be delayed until all assets are fully loaded. Meanwhile, switching between quick cameras was instant so you would see the same pop-in we get now.

Hopefully the fix is as simple as bringing back this delay, but considering the significant engine changes with SU4, it might not be. At the very least they should fix the motion blur applying between camera cuts.

For those able to reproduce this issue, would you mind going over the exact reproduction steps, or a another video would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Here’s a clip illustrating the “flash” that occurs when switching between external/cockpit view utilizing the default keyboard control bound to the backspace key:

Here is a still frame of part of what the flash looks like, and what your eye is catching. The length of time that the flash occurs seems to vary by how long you have remained in one of the views (presumably due to the alternate view being purged from memory). This blurriness and/or loading of textures is what your eye is catching during the view swap:

EDIT:

I’d also like to add that I see this on two vastly different PCs (specs in my profile). One with a 24GB AMD RX7900 XTX at 4K native with Ultra+ settings, and the other with a 6GB Nvidia 1060GTX Max Q 1080p on Medium settings. Therefore, the issue doesn’t seem related to PC specs/performance.
