Flickering in low visibility

Noticed when in low visibility, I get a very annoying flickering issue both in external view but even more disturbing when in the cockpit.

This is in TAA mode in the MeganeX Superlight 8K headset.

Anyone else seen the same thing?

Asked Gemini as I was curious, I think I’ve seen this on my PSVR2 as well:

Thanks, lots of things to try out.

I’m not very tempted to switch to DLSS since I do all my flying in the iFly 737 MAX8 where the PFD, NAV etc aren’t as sharp in DLSS mode as they are in TAA. Also and a bit surprisingly, I have better and more smooth performance using TAA.

Noticed there’s just a new Nvidia driver released which I’ll try after doing a clean installation. Might also try disabling bloom but I kind of like having that enabled. So hopefully that isn’t the culprit.

Best thing would of course be if whatever is causing the issue can be addressed by Asobo and/or Nvidia if this is an already documented issue.

Made a quick test and switching from TAA to DLSS did result in an improvement. Wasn’t completely gone but better. On the other hand, even when using DLAA, the sharpness of TAA looking at the flight instruments can’t be matched. So the slight improvement in flickering IMO isn’t worth it.

I also looked for the Bloom setting but wasn’t able to find it. Haven’t thought of it for a long time but maybe it was removed in MSFS 2024.

Another thing related to weather fenomens in MSFS but probably not to the issue with flickering in low visibility is how you see precipitation inside the cockpit which feels quite odd to say the least. Seeing snow flakes around you with all windows closed :joy:

I hope all of these issues will be addressed in future updates.

Yeah I would agree, DLSS really needs to be able to display the cockpit instruments with a high refresh, surprised this still is an issue.

Bloom’s gone hey? Interesting.

I tried turning on snow yesterday and noticed the same thing lol, flakes in my lap. :joy:

Fact is I just did another test with the latest version of the Nvidia driver (591.74) and using DLSS preset M after following the steps in the video linked below and this time, I was much more happy with the result. I also found the sharpness when looking outside from the cockpit even better than TAA. Also the colors looked more clear and ‘popping’ vs TAA in my MeganeX Superlight 8K.

I suppose maybe I wasn’t using the latest preset M on my first attempt even when I thought so because I didn’t enable the ‘Opt in to access Beta or experimental features’ option in the Nvidia app as explained in the Youtube clip.

Looking forward to try it out on a proper flight tomorrow. Now I need to get some sleep! Working day tomorrow after having been off since before Christmas. First day back at work will be a sleepy one I’m afraid :joy:

I reported the issue with snow inside the cockpit over here. Feel free to add your observations since you’ve seen the same thing.

As always, I suppose the more people, the bigger chance it will get fixed.
