Flight Plans and Runways

I’m not sure if this is more a tools question or just general flight planning. But I’m using LittleNavMap to make flight plans to load into the G1000 NXi. Should I include runway departures and arrivals on the flight plan?

I flew to an airport without a tower so I made a plan that included the runway traffic pattern. When I got to the airport I noticed the AI announced a different runway.

Also, using the flight planner to set the approach doesn’t follow the traffic pattern either. From what I read, you are supposed to approach the center of the runway on the downwind leg. What’s the proper approach?

Right now I’m just trying to figure out how to make the flight plans and use the G1000 NXi GPS navigation.

In my experience uncontrolled airfields (ie no tower) give you the opportunity to choose the runway.
The only way to almost guarantee which runway will be used is to set departure and arrival on the world map.
Used the nxi to set up the second leg of a journey yesterday, only to have to select a different approach when contacted the tower!

Direct interaction on the NXi is downright painful through the sim interface. I’m not sure I could managed any inflight adjustments.
