I had a go at flight sim today - these are my observations
Went into assistance options and turned piloting to medium. This by default sets auto AI trim to off.
So went into a Cessna 152 and took off and thought that trim would work now after changing the assistance option. But as instructed previously, once at a reasonable altitude of flight, I pressed RB and at the same time moved the right stick up and down gently and waited. The trim indicator on the screen largely stays at 0.0 - the indicator might possibly shift to 0.1 briefly and then back to 0.0 - that’s about it. I don’t know what the range for the trim should be as seen on the display. There is no way of getting the trim to work as seen by the indicator moving a lot by using RB and right stick at the same time. All that appears to happen is the plane goes into a nose dive position. Altitude and speed fluctuate wildly and the whole idea of RB and right stick for stable flight does not work at all. The only thing that I found on pressing RB and right stick is that the external camera view changes - but right stick controls external camera view so as far as this is concerned RB has no effect on camera view I think
I did discover that once in flight, if you press the left stick once - you get all the white icons at the top, and the plane achieves stable flight in terms of speed, altitude and direction. This left stick press seems to activate the autopilot mode - pressing it again makes you in control again.
Think it’s best to have piloting on assistance options and everything else to easy - have the white icons on the screen switched on in flight by pressing the left stick - as this generates stable flight conditions- and to enjoy the flight. In an ideal situation I would only have the white icons on the screen briefly in flight rather than all the time - but as I am unable to fly the plane in a straight direction with stable speed and direction - it’s best to have the white icons on screen all the time using the press of the left stick - at the current time
This is a great game but finding it very difficult to operate in a controlled fashion. I can take off fairly ok in the Cessna 152 but once airborne it is impossible to get stable flight going if you manually control the plane using the left stick only, as it is not possible to use trim as I have I indicated earlier - if manual trim was possible I could let go off the left stick and fly a stable course in the air - but this is not possible as RB and right stick does not work. l find that the important parameters go haywire like speed and altitude - despite following earlier instructions of trying to operate trim which I find dont work on x box controller
Look forward to hearing from you if you have any thoughts
Thanks
I would turn off all the assistance settings.
If after that, you are still having issues, check the control settings and see what is assigned to what button in there.
Let us know how you make out!
I agree. The assistance options mess a lot of things up as they include “unlimited fuel”, automatic rudders, automatic trim, etc.
Have a good look through them.
I had similar problems when I first played the game a week or so ago. Works better since I stopped some of the “assistance”.
Thanks for the reply
In the assistance options - there are so many to pick from
Aircraft systems
Failure and damage
Navigation aids
Notification
Piloting
Poi
User Experience
These main descriptions can be picked easy medium or hard
Within each of these main descriptions - there are lots of options when opening them - for example
Piloting has take off auto-rudder, assisted yoke etc
So if you can tell me whether to have the main descriptions easy, medium or hard or which ones to pick in the options below the main descriptions
That is whether to have the main descriptions easy, medium or hard - or which assistance options to have on or off in the assistance options that are located below the main descriptions
It’s a case of copying your settings exactly to what they are - to my settings - which will hopefully make things easier for me
The control options are OK in general with things like sensitivity and the x box buttons assigned to what they do are fine - it’s the other stuff I need help with
Thanks
Sure, I like realism, and it has its advantages as well, as the AI systems are still quite buggy.
Aircraft Systems: Gyro Drift - on, all others off.
Failure and Damage: Icing Effect - on, all others disabled.
Navigation aids: Taxi Ribbon - on (helps at large airports) , others off, smartcam-up to you mine is manual
Notifications: Mine are all off, but that is up to you, for those who aren’t familiar with the sim, they can come in handy, to me they are just in the way.
Piloting: All off but AI radio communication.
POI: same as nav aids, all off, but if you like them they don’t seem to cause issues.
User Experience: all off but ATC voices.
That’s it, good luck!
How do I keep compass and other things like altitude on the display - because these settings switch that off
Just don’t switch those off if you want them.
It’s most important to keep anything off that involves the AI controlling the arcraft.
You should be OK to keep those on.
The settings that you mentioned previously Sevenflyer switch off the aircraft display controls for compass, altitude etc
I want to keep these display controls on
How do I switch these on from the assistance settings - what are these settings called and where are they located.
Thanks
Under the Assistance settings, User Experience, Instrument Heads up Display.
There are two, one for in the cockpit, and one for the chase cam.
It won’t hurt anything to turn them on.
Just seen that under User experience the options are
ATC UI Panel open at start
Show message log in ATC Menu
ATC voices
Checklist UI Panel open at start
VFR map UI Panel open at start
Nav log UI Panel open at start
AI piloting in cursor mode
Can’t find which of these are the options that switch on the display for altitude, speed and compass when in flight
There is no option for instrument heads up display
Don’t know where it is
User Experience - Instrument Heads Up Display
OK - so the option should be there.
I was looking at a YouTube video ( not on the Xbox at the moment) and the options that I listed are from that video
Hopefully I will be able to find it when I next go on the Xbox - if I have any problems I will let you know
Thanks
