To be fair this is quite sloppy programming. You would think basic error checking would be in place to prevent duplicate profile names, even if the default action was to append #1, #2 to the repetition of the name.
In the first couple of weeks using 2024 I was plagued with controller related issues caused simply by trying to make logical assignments.
The end result of this was it become necessary for me to delete data stored on the cloud because it left me with a sim that initially CTD’d whenever I selected the 172. I sort of fixed that but then found the sim no longer created controller profiles at all. Solved that only to have the same problem with helicopters. This then turn into a sim that CTD’d every time during start-up. Delete the cloud data again and start over. Poor. Very poor.
yes I was quite shocked. I kept thinking well it automatically set me up with “My New Profile” but was wondering why I was not seeing my custom camera views that I had set up on the previous flight. Then I found the auto-saved duplicates and it had selected one of the duplicates that didn’t have those custom camera views set up so they were missing, it was driving me crazy. From memory, the text field for the profile was not wide enough to see if there were 1,2,3,4 etc added to the name, but I suspect it isn’t being added. Every time you select FS2020 or FS2024 Transversal and make any kind of change to it, the sim auto-saves to a new profile of the same name. The way around it is to copy the reference one over to a name you will remember then modify that instead then set it as default and apply it to all aircraft. But you have to go check for those bogus auto-saved profile(s) and remove them all. So all you are left with are the two reference ones and your new memorably named one.
Who are „many of us“? Do you have a list with names?
I think i’m a „long-time flight-simulator user“ and i really like the career mode. I enjoyed the missions from FSX too. So pls, stop talking for „us“ (and/or) other and just speak for yourself.
If it’s working for you, you are the first person I’ve seen say so. My bindings are reset back to the default every time I launch the sim or even change planes. And yes, I’ve set them to Default and Applied to all Planes countless times.
However, I’m happy to just have them available to choose at this point. I’ve had them disappear altogether at least 5 times now and had to completely recreate them.
That’s crazy. I never go near control setup any more, I’ve been able to stop thinking about control issues, but I remember the initial two weeks of banging my head against a brick wall trying to figure it out instead of flying. Are you on XBox or PC? I’m on PC, and I have a fairly basic control setup + keyboard.
I’m on Xbox. And I’m not using the default names. I’ve given each one a specific name such as “V1 yoke prop” or “V1 yoke jet”. I’ve gotten to the point of creating a copy of each one and appending “save” to the name in case it disappears again.
I do have a more complicated setup. I have a VelocityOne yoke, a VelocityOne flight stick, a keyboard, Axair MIAP and a 9-key pad. The last 3 all get lumped together as a single keyboard profile. And I have a trackball that shows up as a mouse. Then I have a second mouse profile that always shows up for some reason even with nothing connected but a Xbox controller.
As someone above stated, it appears to be something with the cloud syncing of the profiles at fault. Monday I started to fly only to find that all my bindings for my custom named keyboard profile were all back to the defaults. This is the most problematic for me because that’s the MIAP, and it has 38 bindings, some of which cannot be searched for and have to be entered manually. So it takes about an hour to do, and I’ve had to recreate it multiple times now.
When I found the bindings were all reset again, I quit in disgust. Yesterday I decided to take the time to set it all up again only to find that when I started the sim, my custom bindings were back. I had done nothing in the interim to cause this other than shut it all down, wait two days and then restart.
That’s way more complex than my setup (a hotas and some pedals + keyboard & mouse), but that does sound maddening. I have no idea. I’ve not encountered anything like that and I’m sure it all gets saved to the cloud on PC too. But I haven’t had to go in to control settings to do anything other than add a new binding or two since early December.
Are you finding it changes or drops from aircraft to aircraft as it was doing that for me for a while initially.
Understanding the auto-saves and removing duplicates was the key for me. But I appreciate we all may be seeing different things depending on our setups.
Should’ve been in the style of FSX’s highly varied, handcrafted missions showing off the best parts of the sim & world. I have no interest or time to grind away at a career mode.
When a profile disappears or loses its bindings, it affects all aircraft. That’s my biggest issue.
The secondary one, which is an annoyance but not as big of a deal is that every time I start the sim, I’m back to the default 2024 VelocityOne profile for whatever plane I’ve selected. My keyboard is also reset to the 2024 Transversal or whatever it’s called. My mouse used to also get reset, but I’ve just decided to adapt to the default mouse settings to give me one less thing to have to change.
After I switch to my custom profiles, everything is fine as long as I use the same plane. But switch planes and the profiles go back to the defaults again. It’s not predictable though. Sometimes only one of them will change, usually the Airplane settings. And sometimes when it changes it goes to the 2024 VelocityOne default and other times it switches to None.
I haven’t been able to determine a pattern. It just seems random.
But there is a difference with 2020 and now. Almost all the aircraft were farmed out to business partners. Most the new planes were developed by 3rd party developers, and most the revamp work was given off to a third party. Yes, not the 737, that is an Asobo plane, but still, you get my point. 2020, it was all developed by Asobo. Now, 2024 is developed by many different teams. Microsoft and Asobo doesn’t have to spend their resources fixing those issues, they hand them back to the business partner to address.
We were running three months late in development. The original plan was to start in July to ingesting addons into the new marketplace, find out the issues, and give 3rd parties time to adjust their addons and update them to 2024. That work didn’t start until 3 weeks before launch. A couple days before launch, there was a backwards incompatibility fix made. That left developers 2 days to adjust, obviously not enough time. I get that people are frustrated that things aren’t moving as fast as their liking, but there was 3 months worth of work originally planned that didn’t happen before launch. Of course we are going to be in this state.
I expect the next sim update will try to happen in February, but I would gather it will probably release in March. And I am guessing this based on World Update Brazil is expected now to release in February. Bush trips are missing from 2024. If bush trips aren’t added back into 2024 before the World Update, there is the uncomfortable decision to be made. Either 2020 gets the WU with bush trips but 2024 doesnt get them, or WU Brazil goes out with no bush trips in 2020 or 2024. Either way, there is going to be mass complaints on what they want as their first good news release. So I fully expect they are going to return bush trips in the SU so that WU Brazil can go out without any complaints nor adding to the firestorm.
So while people may want quicker resolution to many of these issues, we have to face the fact that we probably aren’t going to have a big patch to fix many of these issues until February or March.
Yeah I suspect you are right about SU release being Feb at the earliest Jorg talked about a beta test for it in Jan (from memory) but who knows now with so much needing fixed. How many 3rd party will revisit their aircraft though if they delivered a working aircraft (by their definition) to MS in the first place. I certainly see individual aircraft bugs being deprioritised, but yes at least the load is spread out a bit. Some devs are more resposive to updates than others though as we all know. It’s going to be a frustrating time for many.
I am expecting they will try to beta test in February, that is why I guessing the release will push to March, and likely the WU will also move to March.
I order to add bush trips back in, there are a couple things that need to be done. The NavLog window needs to be added back in. And any place (landing challenge, discovery flight, bush trip, etc) where the default Asobo A320 was, it now needs to be replaced with the IniBuilds A320 (because the Asobo A320 isn’t in 2024). I’m not sure how much work the NavLog window is. But replacing the A320 with A320 V2 is a massive amount of work for a lot of people.
Seems like you’re justifying releasing a product half-baked. What’s wrong with fixing the second coming, when you had so many issues the first time around. Why make the customers the beta testers? This makes absolutely zero sense.
I didn’t know it was added into the EFB, but it is my understanding most bush trips dont have access to it yet. All of my bush trips are in the Marketplace so I can’t confirm yet. But people who loaded bush trips into their community folder, they say the trip works, but you just can’t get the NavLog working.
At no point did I state “It’s okay to release a half-baked product” or even come close to implying that. We started this conversation about Career Mode and why it should or it shouldn’t have been an add-on. As I did state before, the existence of the Career Module does not take away from base sim functions.
The argument of whether Career was a good idea from a game feature perspective is a different story and probably is already discussed in a different thread.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a beta tester by literal trade as I indicated earlier. Consumers have a choice with digitally delivered titles, they can wait until initial reviews and user feedback are available to make a decision. I’ve been on both spectrums - I’ve pre-bought titles, I’ve even joined Early Access and most recently, I was about to pull the trigger on a game from the resurrected Microprose game studio when my instinct told me to wait. Good thing too - the initial state of the game after two weeks from release is that’s it’s still a rough Alpha with many features promised in '25 roadmap. There were many reasons for the latter call - a new studio that was cashing in on a respected name in gaming past, no history of product delivery or quality, how good could they get close to a product that’s had many competitors?
Ultimately, it’s up to the consumer to buy or hold. If your instinct is saying “Um, let’s wait for reviews” I’d honestly listen to that voice.
So that’s why after 5 years we still have no functioning ATC. Just think if the resources spent developing career mode went to fix ATC then we might have a functioning ATC. So yes it does affect free flight. And in a bad way.
