Having similar experience, after avionics update xbox content manager is now empty, over 180 addons no longer installed including XPP test programme. Base sim still installed but now i have to spend mybtime re adding everything i re installed last week.
Tried profile re sync but had no effect at all.
I tried to apply a restore point, unfortunately to no avail.
Here, it seems to be the opposite: all the content files I got on a separate SSD are still there, the Flightsimulator exe file is missing, and the folder within the app/packages folder, I assume that’s the base sim.
I still see it in the apps section within the settings (1.37.19.0).
I have the same Problem.Update working automatcly. After the Update the Loading file going to 80% and a Message come The Flightsimulator dont working more.
Its more as frustrating.Last 3 days Holiday and the Time is runnig out.
above in the start desktop i can read 1.38.2.0 PC Version. Steam Version
Just to apply a little balance, here, the same update took place without incident.
It is important to check where it is going to be installed before accepting it and ensuring that location is where the existing version actually is.
Indeed it started automatically. I don’t know where it is installed. The flight sim folder I had under apps/packages is gone - and I definitely didn’t delete it. The community content on my separate SSD is unharmed.
For me, following the checking for updates screen, there was a chance to press an update button, in the bottom right of the screen, which was to the right of the path to be used for the install.
Not saying that’s what you saw, as something odd might be going on here. It wasn’t the most successful of updates, after all.
Apart from getting the missing file from someone else that you know, which might be risky, as you don’t know what else might be missing, a reinstall might be your only option.
However, I’d be tempted to put a support ticket in, as they may be able to save you the pain of doing that.
I think what was meant that occasionally FS or Windows seems to loose the installation location.
My suspect was my antivirus suite…which keeps deleting entries in the registry it considers suspicious.
My install from day one was in C:\FS\MSFS from the day the disks arrived.
Bot sometimes when FS is running the update it wants to install into the default location.
If you don’t look closely and simply click update, the update is obviously much bigger and you end up with two installments of the sim, possibly both unusable.
My sim was installed 4 years ago, and has never once tried to install into anything other than my non-default location. I’ve no idea why some people get that.
If you have ever moved your MSFS packages to a different drive, there’s a chance that you won’t need to reinstall MSFS from scratch.
Go to the other drive where you have your game files stored, open the folder containing your MSFS files. Maximize window - take a screenshot and paste it here.
