Flight Simulators usage data on Steam Charts

I’ve compiled the Flight Simulators usage data on Steam Charts and summarized the data for the last 30 days, as well as the peak users for each simulator.

IMPORTANT REMARK

I don’t intend to establish any reliable statistics that can be extrapolated outside of Steam, just to highlight some data that catches my attention.

DATA FROM: https://steamcharts.com/

MY COMMENTS, in order of usage

1- Peak users for MSFS2020 are 61,775 (August 2020) and drop to 15,051 in September 2020. In July 2021, there is a peak of 19,580, and then it drops again. By November 2024, it was declining, and after the release of MSFS2024, it continues to decline.
2- MSFS2024 has been declining since its release and now has less than half the number of users as MSFS2020.
3- DCS is lowering usage.
4- X-PLANE12 has been gaining users but appears to have stabilized.
5- X-PLANE11 had a peak in users until July 2020 (MSFS effect), then declined. With the release of XP12, it continued to decline but remains comparatively stable.
The combined number of XP11 and XP12 users is lower than the number for XP11 before MSFS.
6- FSX-SE still has a sustained level of users, similar to X-Plane 11.

SUMMARY
I am surprised by the level of XP11 users, and it is too early to see how those of MSFS2020 will decline compared to 2024.

rly ? few month

Really now after a few months still arcade gameplay and you even have to beta test it first.
Leave the scrap and it’s good to develop something new. The time and money are better spent there

Steam or Xbox - ie where did these stats come from. Surely not the entire world as there were millions purchased. Still, it is a sad indictment even if it only a representative count!

That’s from SteamCharts.

Here’s a chart comparing MSFS 2020 & 2024, with X-Plane 12. Blue is 2020, orange is 2024, and green is XP12.

Wow, I hope they are noticing this even if it only the Steam stats. You would hope therefore, they would be a little more engaging and open with those of us who are left!

Despite its troubles it’s the only sim for me at the moment.

Usage numbers mean nothing to MSAsobo now - they’re banking on everyone moving to FS24 later in the year as everyone learns of more fixes being released. They believe that eventually everyone will move over and they have the $$$ to wait it out.

It took 4 years to get 2020 into decent shape. Given how disorganized Asobo is, 2024 will probably be okay a year after 2028 is released.

Answered on other topic.

I remember you this remark, and take into account that I’m happy with 2024, after spending 3.300€ in a new PC.

And the number of users of 2020 is twice of 2024 in this charts and as well the same is in the Navigraph survey with greater nunber os users but also I REMARK that the Navigraph is not extrapolable the real data.

Only MS-Asobo Know the real data.

Ok, no worries, present your data as you find it. We are aware it is not complete.

You can be sure that if 2024 usage was greater than 2020 usage Microsoft would be shouting it to the world.

Same as if Windows 11 had won over most of thecWindows 10 users, instead of people refusing a free upgrade.
