FlightFX Citation Avionics Failure

I recently purchased the FFX Citation which, I have to say, is an incredible business jet- the best I’ve flown in FS2020. I was looking for something more complex and accurate than the default CJ4, which I have enjoyed. FFX nailed it on this one.

However, at about the end of my VNAV descent, I manually tuned in the ILS frequency for my approach and (I’m not saying this had anything to do with the problem) a second later my PFD and MFD lost all gauges/info and they both were basically blank except for displaying “HDG FAIL”. My Avionics basically stopped working, didn’t respond to any AP buttons, and I made a manual approach and landing using the VFR map for guidance.

Has anyone else experienced this with the FFX Citation (or any aircraft)?

This exact thing happened to me yesterday on the X, lol. I use a lot of peripherals, including a Logitech Switch panel. I had copied my Spad profile from another plane, and didn’t realize that the Anti-Ice switch I hit was actually mapped to the Avionics Master. So essentially I turned off the Avionics Power to off, and had the exact symptons you have.

Any chance you could have hit that switch, or else some keyboard/control mapping might’ve done it?

I will definitely have to check that out. I recently had a switch on my throttle that increased or decreased Rudder trim on another aircraft and discovered that it was tied to simrate. My sim started to freeze and I didn’t know why until I realized I was running it at about 100 times normal!

I checked and I don’t have anything assigned to Avionics Power. Interestingly, I just started a test flight with everything fired up and on the runway. If I turn the Avionics Master switch off I get black screens on the PFD and MFD, as would be expected, but turning it back on doesn’t turn the Avionics back on- It just gives me that same HDG FAIL screen. Nothing I do gets it back to normal. I sent a message to FFX to hopefully get some answers.

More info- it must be tied to the FMC. I just did a POS INIT on the FMC and the PFD and MFD returned to normal. Somehow theFMC lost the position of the aircraft? I don’t know why that would occur as I didn’t make any changes (except tuning in an ILS frequency, as I stated), and I’ve never had that happen in other FMC equipped aircraft.

If the Avionics turns off for whatever reason, you’ll have to realign the IRS in order to get any guidance info. I somehow did this while slowly descending with no autopilot into KDCA. I don’t remember quite the sequence I did with the FMC and the IRS knobs, but somehow got it all back. I was about ready to divert to some airport I saw out my window (Dover AFB I think?). Easy enough to repro this…simply turn the avionics switch off then on.

I suspect it’s not realistic to be able realign an IRS while inflight, since it’s normally done prior to taxi with no movement, but maybe I’m wrong?

Well, a few more flights in ghe Citation and no repeat of the avionics failure.

This aircraft should win an award for bang for the buck. It’s fantastic.

I have just bought the X - I am having an issue with ILS approaches. I have been doing some practice approaches at Biggin Hill - manually setting the ILS frequency in NAV 1 before T/O. I set the nav to VOR1 but the ILS frequency keeps changing way from the Biggin freq without any input from me. So I can see having selected APP that I now have LOC indicated. But as I continue the approach the freq changed and the Nav has switched from LOC to VOR1 without any input from me. Anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong please?

Hi @wigamer123 ,

To prevent auto tuning make sure that you manually set the ILS frequency in the NAV page under RADIO TUNING in the FMS. The small letter M should be visible in front of the identifier code and the frequency.

Also ensure that NAV is selected on the small panel above the PFD. See screenshot.

Hope this helps.

Super275327 Thanks so much for your help on this - really appreciated!
