FlightSim Studio B727 Freighter

Thanks for the reply. I am just curious uf this feature is inckuded and visible while on the ground.

Kind regards

I assume you mean ā€œAUTO GSā€ because there is no ā€œAUTO GPSā€ setting in the 727.
Auto GS is to automatically track the course and glideslope of an ILS approach, without an ILS it makes sense the plane will just follow the heading.

To track the GPS put the Nav Selector in either NAV LOC or NAV AUX (aux is for the CIVA INS, with the GTN NAV LOC works).

Make sure you turn on the nav radios (behind pilots seat) before doing anything with the GPS, this helped when I had that same issue. The AP knob needs to be on nav to follow (one turn to the left).

When I first bought MSFS, I was longingly hoping for a bevy of early jet age aircraft, I had a great time in FS 9 flying Eric Cantu’s 737s and Historic Jetliner Group’s DC-8, 707, 720 etc. I have a couple of early ā€˜niche’ jets like Justflight’s excellent F28 and BAE 146, but this 727 ticks all the boxes, a mainstream '50’s tech jet powered beast, one that I would have flown on many times when I was younger.

I was more or less resigned to pass on this one given comments about FSS and their Embraer offerings, but I folded, and I’m thrilled that I did! I have the brand new PMDG 777-300 ER, and the TFDi MD 11, both of which I’ve been waiting for for a long time, but this 727 is the one I want to fly.

Bugs, yes there are some. I do have the one where the heading bug can not be moved at times, and I have had some issues where the autopilot does not behave as expected. Also when I try to program a VOR DME into the CIV-A INS, using the instructions in the manual, (no I will not use GPS on this plane) the VOR frequency is saved but the co-ordinates disappear, leading to the plane going off course when the VORDME leg is activated.

Another, even more annoying issue, is I don’t get the beautiful engine sounds on start-up and in flight, that I’ve heard on streamer videos I don’t know if a re-install will fix it but hoping…

I’ve bought almost all of the complex airliners available for MSFS on day one, and I can say, for me at least, this plane is no more buggy than most of the other ones on day one, but I’d have expected an update for some of these issues by now, hopefully soon.

Hi,

Don’t know it has been modeled. Presently I am on vacation and have not purchased the 727 yet.

Yes, on this 727 the leading edge flaps are drooped while the AC is parked with Hydraulics off. Not sure when they reset to the stowed position, presumably when the hydraulics are turned on, but I haven’t looked.

Hi,

That is correct. Whenever hydraulic system A is pressurized and the flap lever in the cockpit is in the UP or flaps 2 position, the leading edge flaps should retract.

I’ve never had the coordinates disappear on me. However, what I found is that if you were navigating to a VOR you have to enter it as a normal waypoint. If you press the seven and nine keys while on the waypoint selection, you’re loading it as as an available DME that it can leverage for position updating, but not for navigating directly to. So you have waypoints 1-9 and DMEs 1-9. Therefore I’ve found I need to enter VOR’s twice, once as a normal waypoint and once as a DME (along with elevation and frequency on the 3/8 menu). This is the first ever aircraft I’ve used with this type of INS so I have no idea how accurate any of this is. That’s just what I’ve picked up after using it for a while. I’ve confirmed this by cycling through waypoints 1-9 and then pressing 7/9 and cycling through again. It’s a completely separate list of coordinates.

One thing I am still trying to figure out is whether the DME position update process is working correctly. The status selector will say 4 in the third position meaning DME position updating, but the accuracy number never goes back to one and when I press the seven and nine keys, it still flashes zero meaning nothing in range. However, after like a three hour flight, I was still exactly dead center on my Simbrief route. I would have expected more drift if it wasn’t updating correctly.

Ok I’ll try that, thank!

Just been for my first flight. Using the TDXi 750 (but actually flying in NAV mode, so using radios). The flight director just seems to give nonsense. As I bank, the director moves away in the direction of bank (regardless of how far off course I am). If I go to VOR mode, it doesn’t give me any cues to intercept the VOR/LOC, just keeps moving into whichever direction I am turning.

Are they working on this still?

Not an expert, but if you’re on NAV mode, as opposed to GPS. the GPS should have no effect on the Flight Director. If your Flight Director mode is set to NAV, it should be guiding you to the selected VOR/DME vector no?

Could it be that you need to tune the DME on the Nav Radio to get it to update the INS, if so, are you doing this? It says in the manual for the CIV-A that position reports will never get the accuracy to below 2 if one doesn’t have the altitude inputted correctly, could this be the problem?

Hi Luis
I see - thanks! Yes I meant Auto GS - but I was actually reading in my mind ā€œAuto GPSā€ which made me select this mode haha. I will test again!
Thanks mate!

That is the exact problem. I am in NAV mode, have a VOR intercept set up (30 degrees), as the course deflector comes in on the HSI the FD should give me instructions to capture the radial. It doesn’t. It stays in the middle. If I turn right, the FD moves right. When I roll level the FD moves back to the centre even though I have not captured the course. The FD seems to literally be displaying your roll rate

Looks like they released an update a few hours ago and that there is a fix for this issue. As well as many other fixes and even some new features.

LOL! I just loaded up MSFS and a flight before reading this, flight delayed!

I guess cargo doesn’t care as much about delays though.

Yeah, v1.0.1 was released this (European) morning. Changelog can be found here:

Hi

To get the great start-up sounds, you need to open the pilot and co-pilot windows! Then, of course, remember to close them before take off!

Really looking forward to the passenger version and hopefully the -100

This is now on Contrail… $37. Just gotta decide whether to jump in, or wait for the PAX version.

Can you guys explain to me why you just can’t buy the cargo version, have some fun with it for a couple of months and then go with the passenger version? I’ve got many passenger airliners at the moment (B737/777/787, A320, BAe 146, F28, E-Jets, CRJ etc. etc.) and hauling some cargo is a pleasant change. Especially with this legend in such a beautiful rendition. And it costs less than one dinner for two.
